+299 It's always funny when an atheist calls a Christian "close-minded". Aren't you the one who'll only believe something if you see it? amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not being close minded, it's called "being rational".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Being rational" is when you think about something and consider it carefully. That's what Christians have done...we all know in our hearts that God is alive. An atheist, at the age of three, will be told by his parents that there is no God, and he will live the rest of his life ignoring everybody else because he has already gotten that thought in his head.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OR an atheist could be brought up christian, not believe a word of it, and then decided to stop believing in bullshit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't see your argument. Wouldn't that make it just as irrational if a parent told his child at age 3 that there is a God, and he lives the rest of his life ignoring everybody else because he has already gotten that thought in his head?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm an atheist. My parents have never said to me that there is a god, and they have never told me there isn't. I've thought about it carefully and made my own decisions. I don't go around ignoring people because I'm an atheist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i was brought up in a christian family who went to church every sunday. at the age of 12 i realized that you're christian religion is a fairy tale based on cave writings. it's not too hard to see.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm an athiest and I was brought up Christian, even went to CCD first through ninth grade. I've been told practically my whole life that god is real, and at age eleven I realized how much bullshit it is and stopped believing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A Christian, at the age of three, will be told by his parents that there is a God, and he will live the rest of his life ignoring everybody else because he has already gotten that thought in his head.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, you are wrong.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i was atheist and then turned to Christianity. i truly believe atheism is for people who are too lazy to find something to believe in.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not always lazy, sometimes just ignorant. :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yaaa that too

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think that's pretty stereotypical, I was raised Christian and turned Atheist on my own. What does that make me?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A critical thinker. (no offense to religious individuals).

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same thing happened to me, I was Christian for 17 years and then I realized that it wasn't very realistic (no offense to anyone reading this, it's just what I see it as)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know, as an athiest in a Christian environment, I'm gonna disagree. It'd be so much easier to turn to Christianity. So much easier to accept God as the answer. So many Christians are formed out of children who choose to submit to their parents beliefs rather than to for answers of their own. Sometimes its the religious who are lazy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Never have I ever met an athiest who said "I have to see to believe." It's simple that there is NO afterlife. Unlike most people I have studied religions. It's clear they created this "afterlife" so no one would be upset that when they die nothing is going to happen. They created religions, afterlives, gods, & other things to make people feel better.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

agreed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Almost every athiest I've met has been one who has to see to believe. I was talking to an athiest friend of mine about God and he's tried alot of religions. He said that he's given up on them because no matter how hard he tries, he's not seeing results. But thats the problem: its not about results. You have to spend alot of time with God and in prayer to start to notice the little things He puts in our lives. I think that just too many people are looking for miracles, something to see, to confirm any faith.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not necessarily that you have to see to believe, but if it did appear, whatever that sign may be, then a person will most likely believe. But in reality, atheists just base things off of facts.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I saw something on history channel, about how this old woman would have these dramatic "visions" and scream off all sorts of random prophecies. As it turns out, her "visions" were caused by a sort of chemical in an underground spring beneath her home. Just another example of the religious trying to tie a supernatural thought to a fact that is probably chemical or explained by science. The fact that its chemical or scientific doesn't make life any less interesting, a sunset any less beautiful. In fact, the idea that we're here by chance might seem like even more of a miracle than the idea that we were put here. If it takes a "God" to notice the little things in your life then so be it, but I'm not going to pretend something has a meaning when it doesn't, I'm not going to give something an explanation when I have no idea what it really is. I'm just going to enjoy my life as it is, and hope I find some answers along the way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was raised christian and chose athiesm when I was old enough to realise the sheer hypocrisy of the bible and the illogical nature of religion in general

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Success story of a person raised in lies, being brought to truth.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

amen to that :p

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@175861 (Acrasia): Lol, and I suppose you're so smart that you know it's a lie.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1) Not all atheists are misinformed or ignorant or lazy. Some are, in fact, theologists. Many have practiced a religion or sought answers through reading the Bible and the Quran. 2) Religious people can be religious. Why criticize those who do not believe? Everyone has their own path in life. Keep thy religion to thyself! 3) A lot of atheists are scientists who believe that religion has provided nothing but lies about the origins of life, meaning and symbolic immortality through an afterlife, etc. In other words, shattered the good work of evolutionary biologists by claiming answers to questions that do not have answers.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't believe in god, but if I'm wrong I'll be the first to admit it. We're not lazy. We believe in many things... Just not religion. If a crazy person hallucinates about a purple sludge monster who visits them at 3.30am every Tuesday, are you Christians gonna believe them? There's nothing wrong with atheists wanting facts and proof. For us religion is delusional and atheism is rational.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh my god that- wait a minute... I'm an Atheist. Let me start over... THANK YOU FOR THAT AMAZING COMMENT.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why is everyone bashing religion and calling it "lies" or "bullshit". Just believe what you believe and be mature and tolerant of the things you do not believe in

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah, the world would be so much simpler if people didn't bash other people beliefs (whether people believe in atheism or religion)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I gotta disagree with this one... I don't think Christians or Atheists are closed-minded. Me being a former Christian (now an Atheist), I would end up supporting both parties in an argument. ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahahaha I lol'd. No one should call anyone "close minded" unless they're completely ignorant individuals who refuse to let the other party inform them of their decision to be religious or not. There are close minded Atheists and close minded Christians.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Does it make you close minded to sterotype an entre group o people like that? As an aetheist, I believe in many things that I do not see. All I ask is for a reason to believe. That's not too much to ask, is it? I see no reason to beleve that the Bible (or the Koran, or the Vedas, or any other religious text) is the word of any god. They just seem way too human.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am far too lazy to read everything, but it is agnostics that have to "see to believe" not atheists.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Agreed. seriously.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

seriously?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

really really.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Honestly, idk how you can't believe in God. He's so real. Hopefullyy you guys realize that soon. He'ss theree. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Your argument is so overwhelming. My opinion is changed. Thanks for letting me see the light.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Shaan.): LOLOLOLOLOLOL! i'm not trying to argueing. i was just saying. haha. jeeeeez.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Shaan.): LMFAOOOOOOOOO omg. that made me lol so hard.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I grew up never rarely hearing of your god. I didn't heard a thing about him, real or fake. Because of this, I got to watch and see the passion and general thought process of both atheists and Christians while I was growing up, without being directly biased. Then people found out that I was technically agnostic. Atheists smiled and nodded. Christians yelled and preached immediately tried to convert me. That's when I realized that if there were such a benevolent and loving god, that he wouldn't want his followers to be so fanatical. Beyond that, I had the misfortune of learning about the world around me... and how horrible it is. Then I realized that if there really were a god, and if he really did have such a fantastic plan for everybody, and he allowed good things to prosper, then why are the good dying, and the evils living? It just never made sense to me. I'm sure somebody got about halfway through this before they stopped trying to understand, and were thoroughly appalled. ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i think i love you

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It makes perfect sense for someone who does believe in God to be trying to get athiests to believe, because we believe it is for the good of the world to believe. But why do athiests feel it necessary to bash on our God and try to talk us out of it? If they don't believe in any afterlife or any sort of thing like that, then why would they think its in their interest to make people lose their faith. Even if there ends up not being a God or an afterlife, can't you just let people who want to believe in something better do it instead of making us question our faith, one of the main things that brings us happiness and hope?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because it is human nature to argue, and to attempt to persuade. The satisfaction from successfully persuading somebody to share the same views as you is great.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Personal Beliefs are just that. Personal. I chose mine, you chose yours. Don't come shoving yours down my throat, and I won't poke holes at yours. (Pagan-Buddhist, with a heavy dose of just plain not caring)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

STOP FIGHTING! the truth is all relevant. and anyone who has to bash anybody else for their beliefs dont really have faith in their own.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All you Athiests out there I would like to know about your holidays like Christmas, Easter all the religious holidays

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We get them off from work/school because the vast majority of the country is Christian. Whether we celebrate those holidays is up to individuals. I celebrate both of the above because my parents are Christian, and Christmas has become like an American holiday instead of a Christian one. Two words. Santa Claus.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That sounds like something Luna Lovegood would say to Hermionie. xD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is really sad the people who have nothing to believe. Faith, hope the things that keep me believing in Christ. Miracles happen everyday and I wish you everyone could see that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We do. We just dont necessarily believe God caused them. I'm not one to believe in something just to have something to believe in.
