Depends on the situation... wouldn't dream of using a sniper up close and personal (unless it was say, Halo, where you could just beat them down with the gun itself, which would be largely impractical irl) but a shotgun has quite a bit of kick (when I was seven and first fired one, it was pretty freaky) and would also be pretty tough to use in a close quarters match. All in all, I think semiautomatics like AK47s would be a pretty good bet. But I haven't fired one for a while, so I'm not exactly an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

Im in love with the .357 magnum because of its character. But for assault rifle I would have to pick the M16 because of its stability Note: this is coming from a guy who does not play any army games, i speak from experience.
