+784 JK Rowling is a genius - not only because of the many intricate sub-plots she's managed to uphold but also because of stuff not many would notice, like the 'seven'-issue that was discussed here a while ago, how well the names relate to character's personalities and the simple fact that something as simple as love was the basis for the whole series. amirite?

You totally just summed up how I feel about HP ( :

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yay :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'm glad there's another potterhead out here that feels exactly how i feel. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I should think there's more :) I mean, 78 people agreed :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha, true, but some people base it on the movies and not actually read the series. breaks my heart. :(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

mine too :( but hey, we're never bored - we'll just keep convincing people :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Took the words right out of my mouth

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I tend to do that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Especially the love aspect...there are too many books centered around just romance, and not the power of friendship

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know -.- and so many books where the 'love' is just plain lust.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. like twiligt, the teenagers are whining about how they are so in love when they're just attracted to each other

by Anonymous 13 years ago

did you read my mind?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I love Harry Potter ridiculously, I've gone to 5 midnight parties for it, but I always thought the whole "love" thing was a bit silly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

honestly? I think it's the mark of a great author. It could have been silly... but it just isn't.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That doesn't even...make sense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not just silly love, it's the overwhelming power of the purest love of being willing to lay down your life for your friends and to create a better world for everyone to have life worth living. Real love isn't "silly", fake love is.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why it bothered me is that the concept of "love", which really is simply affection, was used as lolhax power. It's possibly the most cliched path an author can walk down and JK Rowling, who is one of the most creative authors in the world, can definitely do better.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not really cliche because it's not the normal romance-i'll-love-you-forever type love. It's like a love of humanity and all that is good in the world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It seems to me that this is an issue that we can agree to disagree on. I still love the Harry Potter series, my opinion just happens to not coincide with the OP's.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That sounds fair enough.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This post itself is sheer awesomeness. I cannot believe just how intricate J.K. Rowling's entire world is - literary genius if I ever saw it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I do thank you for the compliment, and also agree with you totally. now there's a sentence that makes no sense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I honestly believe that in a couple hundred years the series will be considered great literature, because of this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I do agree.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It already is

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you totally made a post about why i love this series, all of the little secrets you figure out each time you read the books. i love it!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thanks :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are so many life lessons to be learned from the books--all of Dumbledore's words of wisdom, and the subtle themes running through all of them, like courage and trust.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i absolutely love the books, but at times I did find it hard to believe that one person could come up with such a vast amazing world. Most people get help on there books now-a-days though, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I suppose they do, but I doubt that JK did, after all it was back in the early nineties.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

fascinating...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Love is not a somple thing in any way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(No one): I was just thinking that. *tries to high five through the computer screen. *knocks the computer down and breaks it. Haha no.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(no one): ah, I suppose it depends on how you think about it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

everything you said was true. what was the 'seven' issue discussed awhile ago?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

people were discussing how the number seven is really central in the series. here's a link: http://www.amirite.net/90159

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wow i was so into it i never realized. thanks!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you're welcome :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

She totally is. Smartest person ever! But the name thing I dont get

by Anonymous 13 years ago

cause, like, lupin comes from the latin lupine (wolf-like), severus means harsh, remus was one of the two wolf-twins in roman legdend (his twin romulus founded rome), vol de mort means flight of death, minerva is the roman goddess of wisdom, percy's owl hermes is named after the greek messenger god, luna's named after the roman goddess of the moon, hedwig's named after some random saint, and so on.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I interpreted the name comment to mean that j.K.specifically chose the character's name to match the personality of the character. The best example I can think of right now is like Gilderoy Lockhart. It just sounds (italicised) like a pompous name. Yeah and malloy's comment, because she got to it first. And sybil was an oracle in the Ancient Greek stories for Sybill trelawney.=]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah I forgot that one :D and also, albus dumbledore means white bumblebee... and hermione was the daughter of helen of troy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol you'd think that Hermione's namesake would make her drop-dead gorgeous, not bushy-haired and buck teethed=P (Rowlings words, not mine! and I'm not saying Hermiones not pretty at all, btw)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you would, you would... but maybe she's trying to point out that INNER BEAUTY is more important :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I hope to say that was what I was implying, and yes I did, so I would =P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

um... well... what?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why am I always this articulate! (hehe, see what I did there?) I was trying to say I was agreeing with you on the inner beauty comment you made

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh, okay :D and I also agree with scupernong down there v.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hermoine started to get pretty once she fixed her teeth and grew up a little :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yup! I agree

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"as simple as love"... really? is that how we view it now?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, it's not a complex theme to understand.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

read the comments up there, I said it could be viewed in many ways.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the idea of love is simple for humans, but the impression and impact it has it complex at least to me

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well said, bookfreak, well said.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I try. I even get it right sometimes=D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...sometimes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey man could you accept my friend invitation? lol I want to be able to send you a message so I can talk to you

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I thought I did already?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

>=[.... yeah, yeah you're right>.<

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Love isn't simple.
