-145 No one really knows how to pronounce "meme" do they, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Meem. There, problem solved.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I used to pronounce it "meh-meh."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

...Why? A word ending with e makes the vowel in the word make it's long sound (as in you basically pronounce it like you'd say the letter). I don't see how there is confusion.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not to be the annoying obnoxious one, but like me-eeeeem? Or like meh-m? Or meh-meh

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's meem. Rhymes with deem.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You do realize meme was a word, long before the internet, right?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So that means not everyone discovered it through the use of internet memes... when people talked to each other... in spoken word... so if they weren't saying it properly, then they would get corrected...?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, but the majority of the people on the internet learned it from the internet. Then again, the post //does// say nobody knows, not YOU don't know. So I suppose you're right.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I realize that, that is why I said what I said. It's all in the technicalities ;]

Like how no one really knows how to pronounce "troll".

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Clearly, it is pronounced 'tro-ooolllll

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I usually pronounce it mem meh.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It is widely pronounced meem. However, the word originally comes from the French word "meme," meaning "same," which is pronounced mem. This root often appears in the English language, however as "mim-" meaning "to imitate," used in the words mimeograph and mimic. In conclusion, due to the etymology of the word, it technically should be pronounced "mem," but since the pronunciation "meem" is nearly universal, one could argue that it is correct.

I always pronounced it like "mee-mee" and even got one of my friends pronouncing it like that, until i heard my forum-king friend say "meeem" i was like "wut"
