by dependence, I think the OP means college students, or other 18+ "adults" who are still living off of their parents.

Yeah, it kinda does. And even when you are supporting yourself (I first moved out of home when I was 15), it personally feels weird to me to think of myself as an adult, even though I've legally been one for more than two year (I'm 20). I dunno, I guess because I'm pretty young for my age, if that makes sense. Like, even people who are a few years younger than me seem vastly more mature.

I prefer to be referred as a guy or young man. Man by itself just sounds old. I still call females that are younger than say 30, girls. Not that I think they're childish... its just that woman sounds so old.

Young lady works too but saying girls is quicker. Lady only works if it's said like the Lady's Man.
