We've all wondered how they got "Dick" from "Richard", amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
It seems like the nickname rhymes with the shortened name...
Robert- Rob- Bob
William- Will- Bill
Richard- Rick- Dick
Y'know?

well you see, Richard was a HUGE dick and the nickname sort of stuck. Either that or he liked to rock out with his cock out

My driving instructor's name was Richard Cox. Even his co-teacher made uhm comments about it, after he left the room.

Maybe someone with an accent (Hispanic maybe) tried to say Rick, but since r's come out as d sounds in Spanish, they said Dick and people misunderstood and thought it was a nickname...

Someone probably accidently said "Rick-Hard" and then someone with a nasty mind said "Dick-Hard!" And from that point on, everyone called Richard, Dick. Because 'Dick Hard' was just too long. (No pun intended)
