+195 If talking to a beat (rap) is considered "real" music, then screaming with background music (screamo) should also be considered "real" music, amirite?

screamo can be real music. but rap isn't just talking to a beat...its much more than that.

ummm im labeled as a scene kid and i LOVE screamo (Asking Alexandria is my fave band) but im also a rapper and let me be the first 2 tell u that rap can be harder then it sound. you not only have to keep a rythym but u have to maintain it write lyrics that make sense unlike lil who gets high and talks to a beat. rappers try to outdo themselves and even their fellow rappers by making each song better then the last. rap is NOT as easy as it looks the same way screamo isnt as easy as it looks. not trying to talk down on u i just want u to understand.

Its not like there's a universal standard that determines what is or isn't good music--much less what is or isn't real music.

It's frustrating when people don't consider rap real music. There are plenty of artists that make meaningful rap songs, but they don't get played on the radio. Therefore, those that say rap is only about money and cars and bitches are the ones who haven't delved into it themselves.

kid cudi had one song played on the radio, which in my opinion, wasnt even close to his best song. kid cudi's one of those rappers that have deep intellectual meaning and you have to really think about his music. sure, a lot of his fans are potheads, but he himself is not (anymore) because he knows he has a job to do and needs to be clear-headed. he has his priorities straight, which is what makes him different than other rappers. so in conclusion, i agree with you :D

Exactly, even the rappers that they do play on the radio have deep, meaningful songs, but the ones that get played on the radio aren't even close to their best. Even Wiz Khalifa has good songs. But you would never think that.

Saying that an artist or type of music isn't real music is just a person's way of saying that they hate that artist or type of music. If you like a certain type of music then listen to it and stop caring what other people think of it.

I think that rap and screamo are both music. A lot of rap is terrible. A lot of screamo is terrible. But a lot of rap is really good, and a lot of screamo is really good as well. You have to realize that a lack of singing doesn't make it 'not music.' By that logic, classical music isn't music either.
