I just use the light switch at the top of the stairs.

I would turn on the lights as I went down, and turn them off as I went up. But my heart would be running as though my life depended on it. Can't you hear that boom-ba-doom-boom-boom-ba-doom-boom, baby (super-bass)? ^Sorry 'bout that, it's been stck in my head for the past cntury. Anyway, ever since I moved into the basement, I found that it really isn't terrifying, but quite peaaceful.
