First of all, why do they have to be African Americans? You are limiting the term "wheat" to just black Americans. Try just blacks next time; it's not an offensive term either.

Yeah, personally I find it more offensive to call EVERY black person you see African American, they aren't necessarily African, nor are they necessarily American. Calling someone black isn't offensive unless they are just itching to pull the race card.
