-1,559 I loved Harry Potter... when I was in fourth grade. C'mon people, grow up. Read a real book. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you sure told them! -_-

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Harry Potter is real

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree kind poster.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you kind commenter

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Like what? Twilight? Any Danielle Steel book?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think they mean real books. You know, those old classics like Wuthering Heights, Gone With the Wind, Tom Sawyer, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Grapes of Wrath, etc.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sorry I'm not that kind of reader so imma stick with cheering for Harry Potter :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was just listing some of the books that the original poster was talking about. Read what you want.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know I'm just sayin that I think the OP has crappy taste in books. No offense :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Btw I tried to read Gone with the wind, it was the most boring book I have ever attempted to read. In my life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's a shame. I found it to be a really good book. Very depressing in some parts, but otherwise very good.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

HATED IT

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm sorry?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Tom Sawyer is an awful book no matter how much of a "classic" people say it is.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Totally agreed. Props to OP

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Seriously I say Harry Potter over twilight any day!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the thing is is that Shakespeare's works were essentially spat on in his time. It's all up to perception. So from an unbiased standpoint. JK Rowling is amazingly consistent. She tackles love in an unorthodox way (which is brilliant). And i personally think that you all are just too close minded to see that. Like Shakespeare, her works may be looked down upon now, but quite possibly in the future they may be taught in school.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

AMEN, OP. AMEN XD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

HOW...DARE...YOU!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah?? well im on the first book right now, and i'm normally a fast reader. this book has taken me 4-5 months ALREADY and i'm STILL at the part where they're shopping for school supplies.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahahah. what is this comment supposed to prove? that it's taken you 5 months to read 100 pages of a childrens book? good job dude.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I read the first book in a day. Either you're a crappy reader, or that what you said is a hyperbole.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

dude. The first one sets up. it gets SOO much better. and pay attention. she made up a TOTALLY new world. all that stuff in the school supplies (as you so put it) stores are interesting. Your motherfuckin ass doesn't have a broomstick, huh motherfucker?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When an author has made millions of dollars and is a household name because of a series, it can be considered a "real book." So I don't know what your definition of real is.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*high fives*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So, so true.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Harry Potter is just as real a book as any classic listed above (eg- wuthering heights, uncle toms cabin, tom sawyer, etc.) It's features just as effective storytelling as any of the other books, the same literary devices, and like those classics, it challenged stereotypes of its literary genre. It has transcended being just another kid's book, and it's popular in hundreds of different countries with multiple audiences. It's been made into a movie (just like wuthering heights. just like great expectations. just like huck finn.) it's a real book. just because YOU'VE (sadly) outgrown its magic doesn't mean the rest of the population has to be as surly and pessimistic as you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*high fives* Well written whoever you are, well written.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

AMEN! :D Well said.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'll read real[classics, boring documenting] books when I -have- to. I'm only just becoming a sophomore. The books in the school library are vandalized, and I can't get to the library near me. I would prefer reading books I /enjoy/, like the Harry Potter series. I do enjoy other books, like The Book Thief. Some topics disgust me. Slavery and The Holocaust [details] disturb me beyond belief. How people can treat humans like that... I had nightmares. Some books, like Uncle Tom's Cabin, are out of the question. And besides, I'm still young. I want to enjoy reading what I am. I want to look forward to my free time to read a book. Being "well-written" doesn't mean it's a good book. Something could have subtle jokes, clever use of irony and metaphors, and extensive vocab, but if the topic isn't interesting, forget it. Let people read what they want without criticizing them, please.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How dare you?! Harry Potter is awesome. Don't be a hater of him. Or his friends and the awesome books about them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and i agree with katffro

by Anonymous 13 years ago

me too!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Soo agree with OP : )

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is where I draw the line. Harry Potter is an AMAZING book and story and I don't know why you don't like it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You have to respect other people's views. I'm being the devil's advocate, but magic is just a bit overdone, and the ending is pretty cliche. It's an amazing book IMHO, but I can see why people don't like it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

me neither

by Anonymous 13 years ago

if you were reading it in fourth grade, you're still young :| I'm well into adulthood and I don't read 'classics', so where do I need to grow up?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Harry Potter is most definitely a real book.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Harry Potter may seem a tad childish to some, but it's far from unreal. I don't know about you, but sometimes I'd much rather dive into something magical than force myself to read a dull book with nothing new or interesting in it. Harry Potter is well written and keeps the reader going far longer than with any of the books I've seen mentioned. However, everyone has their own opinion. But you can't say a book isn't real simply because you don't like it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Leave. Now.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What, does the person who read this prefer Twilight?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

AGREEEEEEEEEEED

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you suck for posting this. i bet no one loves you

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ny nonny loves me

by Anonymous 13 years ago

my mommy**

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You obviously haven't read Harry Potter. At least not properly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

've read it, understood it, thought it was dumb

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

GROW UP!? I BET YOUR ONLY 12. KIDS THESE DAYS JUST WANT TO GROW UP TOO FAST. ENJOY YOUR YOUTH, YOU ONLY HAVE IT ONCE. I LOVE HARRY POTTER I NEVER READ THE BOOKS BECAUSE I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE READING IT I RATHER WATCH THE MOVIE SO YOU I RATHER BE A CHILD FOR ALL I CARE!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, caps lock solves all of life's problems. -_-

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Bahaha!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol, i'm 16.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i agree. but you REALLY should at least listen to them on audiobooks. the magic that is hpotts can only be fully appreciated with the books. the movies take too much stuff out.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I LOVE the movies, but they really do leave a ton of stuff out (obviously, as is with every book to movie).

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Fuck you!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wouldn't say it that antagonistically, but I agree that it's ridiculous how long the fanbase is lasting. Blame my slight dislike of Harry Potter on MLIA if anything.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Have you read the last few books? I wouldn't let a kid read those. People who are over 17 and still love Harry Potter do not need to grow up. Why do we need to grow up anyway? Can't we all have at least one little childish thing in our lives. Besides, I've grown up with Harry Potter and any book that's had such a vast impact on my life deserves to be classed as a real book. Also, I agree that MLIA does take HP a little far, and I'm a hardcore fan.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that comment contradicted itself a lot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i agree. but.... HARDCORE FANS LOVE HARRY POTTER ANYTIME ALL THE TIME LIKE ME!!! btw..... i'd do luna lovegood

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No. You're just mad that Snape dies, but you loved him so much that you decided to bash the series.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(TONKS ♥): Snape ftw

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(TONKS ♥): SPOIL ALERT! lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yess!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I cannot imagine anything more grown up than Snape's love towards Lilly. Besides, I can never grow out of HP because it's such a matured book (filled with the importance of love and friendship) and I am pretty sure it'll be relevant to me even when I'm 50. OP, you need to grow up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Roonil Wazlib): My mom started reading the series as it came out and she loved it and it's had a relevant impact on her. She was 41 when the first book came out.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Whats wrong with 4th graders?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Harry Potter? More like Harry Shitter.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That is neither witty nor clever.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'm gonna use that in a post. lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha it's funny to see harry potter fans get so offended. Lame. Oh and I thought the above comment was witty and clever... Unlike those kids books you idiots obsess over.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what's YOUR favorite book? a brief history of time? the rise and fall of the roman empire? the manual to your inkjet printer? please, respect. i enjoy books that are well-told and imaginative. i, however, can see that you don't. but please, don't call us idiots because we like a certain thing. that's like if i called you an idiot for liking the color red. hey, if you like it, that's your prerogative. i'm not going to insult you based on your beliefs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Um no. Idiot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...that's not even an appropriate response. Not only in the sense that it addresses a question that I never even posed to you, but also, 3 words is not lengthy enough to address all of the complex ideas I laid out. What exactly is it you're responding to "no" with? OH, is your favorite book NOT your printer manual? Sorry, I just assumed you enjoyed dry and tasteless literature rather than well-written and widely renowned literature. Do you hate Shakespeare as well? Macbeth had witches in it, you know. It also features character development, suspense, a villain, blood, fantasy, and mystery. Oh wait, hold on, Harry Potter has that too. Have you read the books? All of them? Or are you basing your judgements off of the movies? Because it sounds like you've either never read the books, or you read them, and just didn't understand them. Either way, I don't appreciate being called an idiot by some faceless internet wanderer.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

right, because enslavement, obsessive love, death, genocide, and discrimination are so second grade. you're absolutely right. way too kiddie for me, i think ill go read something more adult, maybe one of those raunchy porno novels?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(roflmao) go to hell.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Win.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Who posted this, Edward Cullen? What, are you saying that 'Twilight' is a "real book". OK, first, Edward Cullen is not a Vampire. Real vampires have fangs, they don't "sparkle like angels". The Count of Monte Cristo is a vampire, and so is Dracula. Edward Cullen is a fairy. And second, have you even read the books? Personally, I think that you're the kind of person who's so thick that they can't even make it past the first page. And what's all this growing up crap? I can be a kid all I want. Ha.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Eww, Twilight is worse then harry potter

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Real vampires"? Vampires are whatever we make them because there is no such thing as a "real vampire."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Haha I bet anybody that's going against Dear ole Harry here either hasn't read the books and is just going off the hype that some of the little kids who read (and didn't understand) the series have said. I'm 16 and I have read a good amount of your ideas of

by Anonymous 13 years ago

U suck. Harry potter pwns! And all u people who are writin long essays about classic/real books need to go play outside

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Harry Potter is an awesome book for all ages. Suck Voldemorts Dick.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

HARRY POTTER IS AMAZING asdfkjas ;jdfjkdfja dfg what do you read? Twilight?? a young adult girly vampire book? uh uh harry potter

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you are retarded

by Anonymous 13 years ago

... and your cool?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yes

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People are entitled to their own opinions, but I believe the Harry Potter series is the best set of books ever written, and if you want to criticize books, look at the Twilight series. Seriously? I thought only elementary kids would buy that crap, but all of a sudden its a hit. I could say a lot more on how indescribably horrible those "books" are but I think most of you know what I'm talking about. So yeah, that's my opinion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Fuck YOU. and i suppose ur what, a sparkly vampire lover? you go read a real book, arse hole.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

o yeah i just go home and have orgies with stephanie meyers and edwardd cullen and n and jacob black and bella is sucking myy dick right now and i just gave that one hot chick a dirty sanchez. and if you don't know what that is, google that shit mutha fucka. o, and you best not be hatin if you don't eben have an accont, your probably just a stupid nigger or a dumbass jew

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's very sad that people these days are limited to certain books because of their age... that's pretty messed up. Books are a form of entertainment, so people should just read whatever they enjoy the most.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Go team kafka!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

FUCK YOU! say that one more time and i will have to "avada kedavara you" and pop a can in your AZKABAN! i love harry potter with all my heart.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And that is why a I posted this. Thank you for being an excellent example of stupidty

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh my gosh thank you!!!!! harry potter is so played out

by Anonymous 13 years ago

HP is a real book...are you dense to understand it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

... IT'S A CHILDRENS BOOK. If 4th graders aren't too dense, pretty sure normal adults aren't too dense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So what if it's a children's book? It's still a book and can certainly be enjoyed by people of any age.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

*too dense to understand it

by Anonymous 13 years ago

your'e retarded

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and the comments prove how creepy people get about a childrens book yeesh.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Also I hate twilight. Basically any "cult book" I dislike.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's just stupid. You should read based on what interests you, not who or how many people like or dislike a certain book/series.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Your about to get told. This just hit mlia.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It got transferred from here to mlia???

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yup. Someone posted about it. And mlia loves Harry Potter, so...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Bloody hell! You're all idiots. Except the people who share the same opinion as me... they're cool.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm 20 and I just re-read the first two books. I've also read most of Shakespeare's classic and popular plays, I'm an English major in my third year of univeristy, and I enjoy bits of all works/genres of literature. Teen fiction is it's very own genre and Rowling did an amazing job of it, changing the genre in many ways for the better. I enjoy many of the "classics" but I also have a strong respect for teen fiction and the Harry Potter books. If anything, they get kids reading, which simply can't be a bad thing. Maybe some people "grow out" of teen fiction, but I don't think it's needed. My mom is 50 years old and an English consultant (former teacher) and still reads new teen fiction novels (i.e., House of Night). I don't think you should ever discount a genre of books because you think you're too "mature" for it, that closes you off from what could be an amazing story/experience. Be open and read whatever interests you, regardless of the age of the target audience.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Can't force people to read, unless they want to
