+844 Teachers always talk about "being an individual" and "standing up for what you believe in", but if you don't stick to the norm in class or actually do stand up for what you believe in, you're basically told to sit down and shut up. It's all just talk, amirite?

especially with the pledge of allegiance (in america) it has been ruled illegal by the US supreme court to force people to stand for it, and yet most teachers freak out on you if you dont

They refer to your future, and to having your own voice etc. It's not just all talk... it does mean something, you just need to figure that out. School is different, you need to follow the set rules there. Ya know?

And you can't be an individual if you've got a strict uniform! Everybody wears the exact same thing.
