+126 Sirius telling Harry to judge a man on how he treats his inferiors was hipocritical, look at how he treated Kreacher, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

KREACHER was weird- but he was treated like shit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I felt bad for him :(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Kreacher seemed like kind of an ass, though. Dobby, however....

by Anonymous 12 years ago

He was an ass when he was treated badly. His attitude changed completely when they started treating him as an entity with real feelings.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ah, that makes sense.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Even J.K. Rowling pointed this out, how could it have negative votes?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Because Kreacher was a horrible creature. This might as well say "The United States teaching their children to treat all religions equally is hypocritical, look at how they treated Osama, amirite?" OK, Kreacher wasn't nearly as bad as Osama Bin Laden, but still it's the same idea.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, he's not. He was just broken, and even back then, Sirius was terrible with Kreacher.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

When was "back then?"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That was a fucking bad example. Osama took a perfectly harmless religion to the extreme, and started killing people, innocent people, with a "it's my religion" bullshit.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How am I exaggerating?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I was exaggerating. My point is it's not fair to judge people by how they treat those who deserve what they're getting. From what I remember of the books, Kreacher was mean to people, and people were mean to Kreacher.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, Kreacher was mean to people who were mean to him. His attitude changed completely when everyone started not treating him like shit between their toes.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ohh.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Maybe that's how he learnt the saying...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm pretty sure that was the intention. That's why I love Harry Potter. JK Rowling makes her characters so real.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Instead of Hypocritical, I think it should say "Hippogriffical"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

so wait. sirius told someone to do something that he didnt do? thats not hypocritical. if a smoker tells another smoker to quit, but they never do its not hypocritical. its giving good advice

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It would be more like telling a smoker telling someone else who doesn't smoke to not start. Although, I wouldn't consider telling someone not to start smoking a hypocritical thing to do, I would consider Sirius to be very hippogriffical for telling other people to treat those lower than him nicely while he didn't do it himself.

I think Sirius was so mean to Kreacher because Kreacher was sort of a reminder of his childhood. I mean Sirius hated everything about Grimmauld Place, including Kreacher, so I don't think he treated all house-elves that way.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sirius had something personal against Kreacher. He wasn't telling Harry to be nice to people he has issues with. Like MooNeill pointed out, he didn't treat all house-elves that way.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Kreacher wasnt a man though he was an elf...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Inferiors don't necessarily have to be people

by Anonymous 12 years ago

"judge a man"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not hypocritical unless Sirius said he was a good person, which I don't think he did.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, a person can tell you to do something, even if it makes you look worse. Hypocrisy is defined as: The practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform Snape does not claim to treat his inferiors well, or claim he is a good person, only that Harry should judge someone by that standard. You're correct. God, I have too much time on my hands.
