Movies should be made primarily for artistic storytelling, not for entertainment, amirite?

I knew most people wouldn't agree.

Because the average person is pretty shallow.

BECAUSE THE AVERAGE PERSON DOESN'T UNDERSTAND :'(

Why can't we live in a world where some movies are for artistic storytelling and some are purely entertainment, that way everyone would be happy. Oh wait, we do live in that world. If you think there aren't enough movies that aim to be more than entertainment then you aren't looking in the right places.

Please explain

Film is an art, and as an art, it should be an expression of the soul, not an attempt to please an audience.

Art is an expression of the soul, but it is also often meant for people to enjoy. That is why there are art exhibits, etc. and movie theaters. I don't see a major difference between entertainment and artistic storytelling, because stories are entertaining, amirite?

I didn't say they shouldn't be entertaining. But it's just like music, it shouldn't be our primary focus, you know? If you put your soul into it, people will probably like it. :]

Words cannot describe my huge agreement with this.

there should be alot of artistic value in movies, i have no aruement on that, it just they should be only art. no one want to sit though a movie for a hour with then shoving down your thought that IT'S ART!!!!!!!!!!!!
