+602 Disney movies are so sexist. I mean really? Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White etc. What do they all have in common? Their only salvation was a man. amirite?

but the princess and the frog actually was the opposite. the man @#!*% it up.

It'd be kinda weird explaining to your toddler why the Princess is making-out with the another girl.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha, i don't think that's the point of the post though :D

Its true and its teaching young girls that a man should save you when you have a crappy job as a maid

Mulan. Bam.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Belle, Mulan, Tiana, Jasmine all either saved themselves or their prince (or both) looks pretty even to me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

belle- had to accept and put up with an abusive man mulan- had to dress and act like a boy to prove herself Tiana_ nothing bad to say about her i like her! Jasmine- had to act like a slut to save herself so still think they're all that good?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

absolutely. they are all strong female characters.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Belle- saw past the beast and external value. Mulan- changed the way the entire country of China viewed women. ("Emperor's council: She's not a person, she's a woman!" The young army leader: "She's a human being!" then she gets that sword and metal from the emperor and the entire county bows to her, a woman.) Jasmine- was clever and exploited the situation (Jafar wishing she'd be in love with him and kissed him so Aladdin wouldn't be seen) Yep, I do.

You do realize Disney never came up with any of those 3 stories, they're all centuries old, right?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're fairy tales idiot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't diss Disney :( Dey is my movies!!! But the other commenters are right... there are plently of movies where the girls help themselves, or it is really equal with the man. And the stories weren't made up by Disney, just... fixed ;) But because they are fairytales, even though stories like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty involved a handsome prince saving the princess, they were in no way intended to be sexist. Sorry, but I'm a Disney girl all the way! ^.^

(i<3toystory): **plenty Gah! Darn you typos! P:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're old fairytales, Walt Disney didn't make them up. Plus, they're sweet stories :3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most of the stories just reflect how society was when they were written, hundreds of years ago.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i wish guys were actually like that. going a long way just to help you. actually caring about you.

Belle was a bookworm. Ariel saved Prince Eric's ass from drowning. Mulan saved China. Jasmine wanted to escape being a princess and be normal. Pocahontas was a peacemaker. Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty are just the 3 bimbos of Disney... even though they weren't created by Disney.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty are also the oldest of these movies. The new ones show a more even balance. OP is a dumbass

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sorry, but this is ignorant as hell. Like everyone else said, Ariel, Mulan, Pochahontas, Jasmine, and many more were the stronger characters. Most of their stories weren't made up by them, anyway. They were made up in times when that was normal. Besides, women can get along very well by themselves and don't need to be dependant on a man, but seriously, do you want to be so independant as to turn down a guy who's trying to help you escape from your evil family? Does that really show weakness? It doesn't to me. To me, it shows that she's accepting help, and I think it makes her stronger than turning down help and trying to endure that kind of thing by herself. That would just be stupid and concieted. And what would movies be like without some kind of love interest? They would be practically nonexistant. If Aurora was just saved by her three fairy firends, there would barely be a story. Same thing as if Cinderella's mice saved her. That takes out the main theme of Disney: true love.

I really fucking hate it when people say this about disney movies. It's really just generalising.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You know what else they all have in common? They were all made before women were seen as equal to men. Maybe that has something to do with it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The three examples you listed are the only ones that could really be seen as "sexist" though............

by Anonymous 11 years ago

MERIDA. RAPUNZEL.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Then again, originally these stories are ancient, and the Disney adaptions are now many decades old with Snow White being 25 years away from being 100 years old.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

exactly, that was the tradition back then, and it's not anymore, so it seems questionable. I would go so far as to say that if it were the other way around (female independence movies/stories) it would be unacceptable to people back then.
