+766 You hope that British people find our American accents as attractive/interesting as we find theirs. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They don't- sorry

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Somehow british accents make every one of them sound snobbish

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i hate ENGLISH (not British) accents

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are huge variations within the categories of British accents and American accents. Some are pleasant to foreigners, others not so much.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am only find the Southern accent funny :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm American and I hate most American accents. I wish I knew what my own accent sounded like. Upstate NY doesn't seem to have an accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

upstate ny definetly has an accent

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@392721 (Anonymous): yeah, i live in like upstate/western new york. we definitely have a great lakes region accent. very nasally, and southern sounding.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know about you, but I don't have anything close to a Southern accent, and I live in upstate NY.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it's just nasally and some words have strong vowels like in thAt.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

at least that's what everyone who comes to visit from out of state says.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in Florida and I don't think we have accents...at least not like Georgia.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you have accents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Georgia accents are awesome!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm from Georgia and I have no idea if I have an accent or not? If I know tons of people though who do have strong southern accents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's just because you have the accent, so it sounds normal to you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in Georgia and I don't have an accent. I live in south Georgia, too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know right? Every other state in the south seems to have it's own trade mark ascent except Florida. ...or mabey that's because I live there...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm South African and love both :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I looove south african accents. just saying.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hehe tnx :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Aww you love our accents?:)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I find it annoying when people have huge, full on, in your face British accents. It's better when it's only a small inflection of their speech.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Upstate new york doesnt have an accent. New york CITY has an accent, along with the rest of southern ny, but not the middle to upper half. Provided your talking about the people who dont talk ghetto...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

upstate new york has an accent. it's just different..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

everyone has an "accent" you just don't notice it when you live in that area

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, everyone has an accent, because accents are variations on how we say words and letters and the like. All are noticeable...even the accent where it seems you don't have an accent is an accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in upstate NY and I don't think I have an accent, maybe it sounds that way to other people though. Personally, I don't find British accents attractive. It's amuisng to hear them talk, but ew that'd be so annoying to date someone with a British accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what about California's accent? That's my home, I can't tell if we have an accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oops, I meant to say Nor-Cal accent, So-Cal is valley girl which is yuck.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(:]): Not all SoCal girls have valley girl accents. Recently I moved up north from San Diego, and no one here says I have an accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(:]): Valspeak (valley girl) is a dialect, not an accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(:]): a crapload of girls who go to my college all come from so-cal. and they all talk like idiots. every one of them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh my. okay i was born in new york city and moved to upstate. you guys DEFINETLY have an accent. you have a really hard "a". Like when you say plaza, its very distinct.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

great lakes region? I'm from Minnesota and we do not talk southern. and rarely do I hear people say, "gotcha" or "yeah sure you betcha". only those with strong Minnesotan accents (which is few). anyways, everyone has an accent because there is no normal way to talk.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in Arizona and when I go to visit my family who live in the St. Paul area I can hear an accent when they say words with a long A sound like "bag", it sounds more like "beg" lol. & when I first moved out here people said I had a little accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

do Californian's have an accent?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do Chicagoans have an accent?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live like an hour outside of Chicago, and I would say no. The reason being that our speech is the same as the speech portrayed in the media. Which is why I don't think California has an accent either. But technically, everyone has an accent, because an accent is just the way you talk based on where you live. So Chicagoans have an American accent, but not an accent that comes from their local region.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The people of Chicago most certainly have accents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in Chicago and we definitely have accents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone has an accent to other people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've lived in eastern NC my whole life, but I have no southern-ish accent like most people here.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'm english and i ADORE the american accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yay! One person! hahaha :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I can understand that the brittish think our accent is "nasally", because we (or just me at least) think that the vowels are like "eh", "ah", and that's where the stereotypical "ello govnah" comes from.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well...Has anyone here every talked to someone in Montana? Any accents there (besides the occasional redneck)?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yea! One of my friends came from Montana and she has such an awesome accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey I'm from Montana! I hear that we don't have an accent but maybe it depends on the person?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Stop asking if you have accents people. EVERYONE has an accent, it's just minor changes depending on where you were born/where you learned to speak. But when you are in that region you don't notice your own accent, and you will never understand what 'your accent' is because it is your own variation and everyone else has the accent, according to you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What does a Michigan accent sound like? Because people have said it sounds Canadian, but i cant really tell.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I moved from Chicago to Michigan. people from Michigan sound slightly like hicks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahaha, really? i've been to chicago a couple times, and i never noticed any differences between my accent and what i've heard there. i guess im just oblivious to that kinda thing...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm Egyptian. As long as it's English, it's amazing! :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey, I'm British, and I find American accents are amazing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

North Georgians usually don't have accents. when you hit south georgia...things get redneck.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in South Georgia and I don't have a redneck accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Eastern Ohio doesn't really have accents, just a few sayings I guess. Pennsylvania doesn't have any either, just to the north and south there are. I really like British and Irish accents, though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

to me, British and New Jersey accents are cool

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm from New Jersey! I guess you like my accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm Canadian (Ontario) but our accents aren't much different from Northern states that border with us D= Although Maritimers have accents lol I like some British accents, as long as it's not really strong~

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People from Austin, TX don't typically have southern accents, but you can definitely hear a bit of a drawl on certain words. Like when I say "accents" it ends up defeating the purpose of the above statement because I say it in such a southernly way haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm from the Midwest and I've heard that a lot of news reporters come from here because we have the most neutral of accents but I'm not sure if that is true or not and of course I don't think we have an accent unless you get into the more hick regions... I think people from Minnesota and Chicago have the best accents! :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm from colorado, where we're just like chicago and california in that we have no detectable accent. except supposedly we dont pronounce our "T's" in words like mountain, button, or kitten.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think people from Colorado have accents, but people from Chicago definitely have one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey, how about southern california? (no, not valley-girl). What do our accents sound like?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i hate those english/british accents. they annoy me to death

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm from SoCal, and I have a Mexican accent..Lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

British/Scots accents annoy the hell out of me. Its hilarous watching BBC and how they speak, but strangely I adore Australian accents. They're pretty eargasmic. I'm midwestern and I don't think I have much of an accent. I love southern accents. And I can't stand valley girl accents LIkee, ehh mahh goddd

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i love new zealand accents so much. if i could have any accent in the world, it would be that. australian is a close second though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

british accents are the best! but I'm from long island (new york) and people say we have long vowel sounds in words like water and dog

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Gosh. I'm from Tennessee. I only have a slight hint of southern, but some of the country accents here are BAD. Do we really have preset stereotypes?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its weird. ppk from america have all diffrrent accents. theres heavy new york ones, boston, southern, then everyone whos just floatin around..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hello...I'm canadian, and I always wondered what a Canadian accent sounded like...If someone could tell me I would be VERY happy :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I love Canadians! Lol I think Canadians say words with "o"s weird, like "sorry" and "process". I don't know if you personally do it, but your "sorry" sounds like "sorey" to me :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Where I am from, is actually said to have the least accent of anyone. They send new news anchors here to learn how to speak clearly and properly. Btw, south dakota is where its at.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think American accents are hot ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you live in florida like me, you can pick up a number of accents. I have an island accent, I have friends with southern accents, and then some people don't have accents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All the people from the US who keep saying 'I'm from _________ and we don't have accents', you do. To English people, English isn't an accent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago
