Not necessarily. Indie and Mainstream are such broad terms to describe genres that you really can't compare them. Mainstream can include anything from rap to pop to country to soul, but so can indie. Therefore, they are perfectly equal unless defined by someone who is more biased toward one side.

1.Nobody cares for hipsters 2. Indie music isnt any better. It's an independant label, what's different about that? If anything, they are independant because they suck hard enough as to where no recording studios would accept them.
