Exactly. It teaches kids not to strive for being better than everybody else and it also doesn't prepare them for the real world where a mediocre job doesn't always cut it.

What if it's a competition of 1,000 kids? 4th place goes home with nothing? But I agree with the point you're trying to make, I'm just being a dick.
