A celebrity can't call themselves a singer if they don't write their own music, amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
They can call themselves singers if they sing the actual song. they can't call themselves artists though.

I wouldn't say they can't be artists as people view art differently according to their taste. A better fitting word would be composer or more specific song-writer. They wouldn't be a composer or a song-writer that is.

They can be performing artists, but it should be specified.

Couldn't of said it better myself

Correction: Couldn't HAVE said it better myself.
by Anonymous12 years ago
...and yet you disagreed?
by Anonymous12 years ago
yeah, they'd be singers, just not song-writers
by Anonymous13 years ago
They're still singers. They're singing, aren't they? They're not artists if they don't write the song, however.

So anyone in a choir or a musical isn't a "singer"?
by Anonymous12 years ago
There's a difference between a singer and a singer-songwriter. They can be singers as long as they actually have talent.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Or autotune.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Uh, I'm not sure I consider those with bad voices who rely on autotune to be singers...maybe performers.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Oh I don't consider them singers either, but they usually think so. Performer is a good word for it.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Yeah, you may not consider them singers, but they do as well as the labels that sign them.
