+318 A lot of what your parents told you when you were little makes sense once you start taking care of children, and suddenly, because I said so becomes a perfectly acceptable answer, amirite?

I pledge to always give my children a reason. If I ever say 'because I said so,' someone shoot me.

It's amazing how much easier it is to get kids to do things if you give them a reason. Otherwise they think you're just trying to spoil their fun.

I think it's a fine answer. Especially if kids get into the "why?" game, where any answer is just replied with why, why, why? Giving a reason doesn't always mean they'll a. understand b. care or c. do what they need to do.
