I'm Cuban and one of my best friends is half Mexican. She makes it a point to tell as little people as possible because they insult her sometimes. One girl(who speaks Spanish) said, in complete seriousness, "Can you speak "Mexican'"

Can someone please explain to me why people of Mexican decent shouldn't be called Hispanic or latino? The word "white" applies to hundreds of different ethnicities, and so does "black". If I (Italian) were hanging out with my Russian friend and my Scottish friend and someone saw us, it would be okay for them to say "Look at those three white guys". Why couldn't I say "Look at those three Latino guys" if they were Peruvian, Mexican, and Venezuelan?

I don't think that was the point. I think the post was focusing more on a situation when anybody of Latino descent is referred to as Mexican.

I think it depends wat part of the u.s you're in. In new york there's latinos/hispanics from every where mainly puerto rico and dominican rep. But not everyone assumes latinos here is from d.r or p.r.
