It has the highest rates of both obesity, and child obesity, though. (As far as I know)

It's the resaurant business of America. They bloat up the portions, so they can bloat up the prices too. It may not make much sense, because the extra food is discarded most of the time, but they somehow profitize on that. The Cheesecake Factory is a good example. You could have a whole community of hobos in their dumpsters.
