+192 If religious people were rational, there would be no religion, amirite?

There are some (SOME) very rational religious people and some very irrational atheists.

Well of course there will be exceptions. But I like what George Carlin said "Religion has convinced people that there's an invisible man ... living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money." — George Carlin

Come to think of it, I should probably rephrase...religion isn't rational, but theism can be. Some very smart people believe there's a higher power, but I guess that, yeah, organized religion is pretty irrational.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If there is a higher power, isn't it likely that one of the organized religions has it right about what kind of a god exists? I mean, it there are so many religions that one of them has to describe what this power is like.

personally, i find that us being created in a laboratory in another dimention is just as, or even more likly, then a super powerful super natural being.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If we were created in a laboratory in another dimension, what was running this laboratory and how did we get to this dimension? The existence of a super-powerful, super-natural being would explain the otherwise unexplainable question of what caused the Big Bang and why there is life in the universe.

That's Christianity you ignorant piece of shit. There is more than one religion out there.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Funny, I think that the opposite is true more of the time...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If Atheists were rational, they'd be Agnostic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

True that, Atheism is retarded, the existence (or nonexistence) of God is something that can not be proven. Not believing in God requires just as much faith in something with no basis or evidence as believing in God. Agnosticism makes the most sense. Maybe God exists, maybe not, it can not be proven either way. To take a firm 'yes' or 'no' stance on a question that we can only answer with 'maybe' is just silly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So many people don't know the true meaning of agnostic. It is NOT a third way option. Every one essentially falls into either the category theism or atheism. You either DO have a belief in god or you DO NOT have a belief in god. This video explains it pretty well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIKeC9k2-Jg

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, agnosticism is a valid option. It's a way of sitting on the fence but feeling like they have the right answer; a way of not taking a side on a controversial issue. Revelation 3:15-16 talks of Agnostics. "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth."

@254116 (Anonymous): @254662 (marsellas): I'd just like to point out however being an Atheist and nonreligious can be different things. And also, most people who consider themselves Atheist, actually would fall under agnostic atheism.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly! I consider myself an atheist/agnostic. I don't think there's a god, but I'm open to the possibility of one. If anything happens that cannot be explained by anything other than the existence of a God, I would be willing to change my opinion. I have an open mind. Unlike most religious people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm pretty much in the same way but I lean pretty far to atheism when people get in my face and tell me I'm going to hell or what not.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Theism is irrational, and SOME atheists are irrational in that they don't know what they are talking about. Deism is pretty funny though, if you think about it. It basically says that this dude "detonated", if you will, the Big Bang and then sat back and watched it all play out. Kinda like a movie, huh? Sounds like a pretty chill dude to me.

If non-religious people were rational, they would notice they troll without even realizing it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think now atheists have gotten to a point where they are even worse than us Christians.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you look through history, those who did not believe in god have quite often taken a strong position against god's existence and put down christians (some going as far as threatening to kill those who converted...) examples starting with Nero and moving up through history to modern day China.

love it! Awesome post

I am Christian but I'm not religious I believe that God created us for us to have all confidence in him to be his friend and he would be the best friend anyone could ask for and he has given us everlasting life if you think he is cruel for making us live in a world like we live do you really think you'd hand someone the biggest treasure ever after they have mistreated you and let them frolic in a meadow all day...no religion is not what he intended people are ignorant and think they way to get to the Beaty of things is through money and structured rituals I think the only way I can get to being with God and being prosperous and happy while I live in this world is by repaying Him through my fidelity to his commandments and worshiping Him and giving Him the honor and glory that He knows we cannot handle...and I completely agree with whoever posted this

Sounds like something Gregory House said.
