It's just an overall generalisation. I don't think all Americans are stupid, but I think a majority are. It's the few people who give the country a bad rep. Just get over it...I find that Americans are the ones most offended by stupid stereotypes.

For the record, almost every WHITE AMERICAN (as in, people who immigrated way back when, not the recent immigrants) that I know is extremely intelligent, or at the very least has a shitton of potential.

Mchalla3- Are you serious? Both my parents immigrated here 20 years ago from Dominican Republic and became professors. I am ranked in the top 5% of my class. Don't you dare say that just because you're not white, you're stupid. In fact, I know quite a few ignorant people, like you, and they come in all races.

Yeah, I reread it and understood where I went wrong with the wording there. What I meant was that white people i knew were smart. The stuff in parenthesis was meant to clarify who I was talking about, not to say that nonwhites are stupid. I myself am nonwhite and my patens immigrated here about 20 years ago.

Of course race doesn't make intelligence, intelligence makes intelligence. I don't think either race is necessarily smarter than the other, I was just trying to say that race and nationality does not play a role, like the OP of this comment thread was saying.

Most people are happy to speak to me. I assume everyone hates us so I always try to greet them as candidly as possible (which is always nice ofcourse but not "fake") but ive only had one person hate me but i think they were trolling. (God i hate that word)

Americans aren't stupid, but the majority have a limited and self-centred view of the world that sometimes makes them seem that way...but tbh that's normal for any country on top of the world, look how up themselves the brits were in their heyday and look how self-deprecating they are now. Americans will grow out of it when they're not the most powerful country in the world anymore, and then it'll be another country's turn to look stupid

A lot of it does come from TV shows. I met a guy from Belgium who asked if a lot of middle-aged Americans were like Homer Simpson. Or I have a Chinese friend who says he has no interest in visiting America because it's boring-- at least, that's how all the TV shows made it look to him. Other people think its more dangerous because they've seen shows like CSI or Law and Order and think everyone is a murderer. So it stands to reason people think Americans are stupid if they watch stuff like Jersey Shore or something like that.
