This post definitely came from a 17 year old who got her phone taken away an 10pm on a school night...

I know a lot of 17 year old girls who would benefit from this punishment

why not?

It matters if the teen bought the phone and paid for the phonebill and was respectful to the parents allowing her to have a phone at all. But since these days it is rare, no she should get her phone taken away. Also grades matter a lot if her grades are down then the parents have the right since they are still responsible for their child up until age 18 and they live in their house.

If they're being a little shit I'd take the shit whenever a felt like it.

Y u mad tho?
by Anonymous12 years ago
I am not mad in any way. It is just slightly annoying how teenagers are under the impression that it is their right to have a cell phone. Especially when the parents are paying the bill.
by Anonymous12 years ago
No I agree with you, but I think it's something that nowadays is almost obligatory, like having a tv. Obviously they aren't owed it.

I love your use of "little shit."

If your the one paying for it then no, but if your parents are why the hell not :)
by Anonymous12 years ago
Well if theyre paying for it then its their choice but if the girl's grades are fine and she's respectful I don't see why they should take it.
also a 17 year old girl should be responsible enough to know when to go to sleep for school.

Well, it seems a bit overly strict for a 17 year old... It would be a bit more reasonable for a 15 year old, or a 13 year old.
I knew someone whose parents took away his phone every evening at 6 or 7. :/

This is my friend's exact situation. She's (mostly) respectful to her parents, gets good grades, is a good citizen, doesn't drink/do drugs... And she's not allowed to have her phone past 10. I think that's stupid.
BUT If the kid is being a little jackass, take it away.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It depends if this is a punishment or if they do this every day.
by Anonymous12 years ago
If you don't plan on using it and actually sleep why does it matter? I'm 17 and I don't even have a cell phone and my mom takes the TV power cord everynight at 11 but I go to sleep so whatever if she didn't do that I'd be up all night.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Exactly. It's on a school night, you should be sleeping. They wouldn't be mad about their parents taking it if they weren't planning on using it. Having a cell phone is not a right, and it pisses me off to no ends when kids act like it is.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Well I use my cell phone as my alarm so if I don't have that with me while I'm sleeping, I'm screwed.
