+300 Instead of planting oak and maple trees in cities to 'beautify,' the government should plant fruit trees. This would help both hunger problems and the obesity problem of America, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That wouldn't solve neither problem. And please explain how growing more fruit will make us less fat? We have apples piling up in grocery stores for $1/pound, but people would rather buy Lays for $5/pound.

*would solve neither problem *wouldn't solve either problem either one. =P

well if there were kids who were hungry, then instead of going to McDonald's or something, they could just eat an apple from a tree. and hungry homeless people could eat apples too, which although it wouldn't completely solve it, would help the hunger problem.

Exactly, if we're talking about obesity. People choose what they eat, and like you said, most people choose junk food even though there's fruits/vegetables. There's still problems like animal infestations for the fruit, freshness, etc.

$5 for a pound of Lay's sounds like a pretty good deal. A big bag is 1.5 oz, so that's like 10 and 2/3 bags of Lay's.

This would definitely not work in cities or towns because then there'd be an overpopulation of squirrels, birds, and other animals who can climb trees and eat fruit in the cities. And a ton of uneaten, rotting fruit, because who wants to eat fruit from a tree in the middle of the city where there are roads, people, and buildings to contaminate it? I'm not sure this would work anywhere, actually.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, I was gonna say that. The fruit tree would be overrun by animals before humans could get any fruit, and it would be covered in animal poop. Also, lots of fruit would eventually turn rotten (who would want to eat food that touched the ground), which would attract flies and make the area smell bad. Also, for the homeless people, they wouldn't have anywhere clean to wash it or anything clean to wash it with.

It's a cool idea, but it'd be easy for someone to poison the fruits. And anyone can turn an apple in a weapon. The city could be sued for damages and such.

Apples are very dangerous. Believe me.

(Snow White): My friend (who is a pitcher) pegged me with one when I was on a trampoline. It was caught on tape. All you see is a blonde girl dropping and Conner laughing at me d Needless to say, I am not pro-apple d

Yeah! PC all the way!

They could have them in special gated parks with like a security guard... Never mind it's a cool idea for a small town but expensive and not feasible on a wider scale.

Plant money trees, we could really use those now a days.

Stupid people trying to alleviate our "obesity problem". You do know that the majority of us aren't obese? And even then, most cases of obesity are self imposed.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The majority of us have jobs, but the lack of jobs/people with jobs is still a problem. It doesn't have to be a majority to be a problem.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It could also hurt the economy, what with people just getting all of their fruit off of trees. Then you have fruit rotting and kids throwing the rotten fruit at eachother... In a perfect world though, I think that would be lovely.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And would beautify, and we would be helping the planet (sort of).

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ok, and how about all the extra money the city will have to spend cleaning all the dead fruit off the streets? Or how about all the Mario Kart racers springing out on banana peels?? HUH?!
