+316 Why do we use the word 'Everyone' when we literally don't mean 'everyone on this planet.' Or like 'Got your keys and everything?' You obviously can't take everything. Humans just love to exaggerate, amirite?

Everyone exaggerates about everything. It's just a fact of life.

When someone says "Got your keys and everything?", they really mean "Got your keys and everything else you need?". Everyone (yes, everyone) understands what they mean. Ugh, why do I even have to explain this?

Because when we use the word 'everyone', we usually don't mean it to be short for 'everyone on this planet'. More like 'everyone in this group' or 'everyone in this family'. Same for 'everything'. It would be 'everything you need', not 'everything you own'.

People over-exaggerate? Well you over-analyze.

More like people like to shorten their sentences. They skip "everything you need" to "everything" and "every normal person" to "everyone".
