People that can't stand camping are usually those who are very materialistic, amirite?

Well some camps are horrible...going to the nasty toilets with used pads fallen on the floor and disgusting stench is something NOBODY can stand, not only materialistic ppl..

I'm not talking about going to camps, I'm talking about "pitching a tent, the woods are the bathroom, lay out your sleeping bag, get a fire going" type of camping.

I don't need much for a short trip. Just a small area that is relatively safe, and only slightly dirtier than my house would be fine. ie, a tent. It's not so much the no stuff factor that I hate, it's the isolation. I can't be far from civilisation and alone without being totally freaked out at night.

Some people are just really afraid of insects, which doesn't make them materialistic, but would make them dislike camping.

^This. I get panic attacks, I doubt I would want to be surrounded by them. Even if I was in a tent, I'd still be paranoid.

Or those who hate mosquitoes, those who have back trouble and don't like sleeping on the ground, or those who nearly had their tent set on fire by other drunk campers when they were ten. That got a bit personal at the end.

Those people have their own standards of camping, though. I don't think going out and pitching a tent in the wilderness should be considered a more "real" camping experience than taking your RV into the woods for a few days. People can get so snotty about it.

I associate camping with everyone getting drunk and feeling alone because you were too young/just a burden on everyone else so you got left behind at the campsite with drunk strangers stumbling through. I want to give just pitching a tent in the woods and living there a chance, but no one else around me wants to and just wants to go to a 'campsite'. Bleh.

If the weather's supposed to be nice we don't even use tents. There's really nothing like sleeping under the stars.
