-232 Nothing's wrong with screamo music. In fact, it's quite under-appreciated. Amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

More like, its shit, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its actually rather wicked. Of course I mean in a good way. It generally is twenty times more poetic than a vast majority of mainstream.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

screamo is terrible. you can't even hear what they're saying. and peotic? not even a little bit

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So what do you find "Poetic"? I don't see the issue with not understanding what they're saying. There's a countless number of websites that have the lyrics typed out, so you're distaste of Screamo music really has nothing to do with understanding what they're saying, you're just not willing to listen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, sure it can be poetic, but looking up the lyrics isn't the same as being able to hear it and understand it. and don't give me the thing about mainstream music being stupid because i agree. most of it is a lot worse than screamo music because the lyrics are unoriginal and most of the people playing it have no talent. and yes, more people should be open to different kinds of music.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's true. I personally have no issue with understanding what is being said unless they're frying, that's just going a little over-board. But even still, options remain, instead of bashing a genre, people should just not listen to it. But that's just my opinion, I guess..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh yeah, just because you don't like a genre doesn't mean you should say how it sucks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Peotic, no. Poetic, yes.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

just because I don't like people screaming their heads off about depressing disgusting things doesn't mean I like mainstrem crap. Eels. Cake. Toots and the Maytals. 'Nuff Said. P.S. Black Keys.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Poetic definition: possessing the qualities or charm of poetry. I'm sorry, but the vast majority of screamo music does not fit the build. Neither does a lot of today's music, like you said. In fact lyrically the words and subject matter of most screamo music can be considered pretty main stream now. Please note that mainstream encompasses a lot more than pop music. In fact one of the only thing that makes screamo music stand out is titular "screaming." (Now many of you will read this previous sentence as an insult to the genre, its not, in fact screamo music is screamo simply because of the screaming.) I'm not insulting your taste of music. I am, however, critiquing your word choice. Poetic is simply not the right word to be used for. Other words that would have been a lot more appropriate would have been: meaningful, deep, resonating, piercing, soulful, etc. What i'm getting at is the fact that while poetry is a very versatile label it does not translate well to music, of any variety. I'm also not saying that there are no poetic screamo bands. Instead i'm saying that the vast majority of them, like the vast majority of musicians, aren't poetic. Its not the genre that matters i...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You can listen to a lot of poetic music that isn't mainstream WITHOUT someone wrecking your eardrums

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Given the the negativity your receiving you apparently CAN'T in fact find poetry in non-screaming, or maybe its non-mainstream, music. who would have thought.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Maybe they were insulted that I doubt the strength of their eardums

lol that shit sucks :p

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Only if your a tight jeaned faggot, this post makes sense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Obviously YOU'RE a close-minded jerk who didn't pass elementary school English.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually I like a huge variety of music. I tried to like this music, but I couldn't bring myself to a level of faggotry that is so low.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just because you dislike a certain type of music doesn't mean you should insult everyone who listens to it. People have different tastes in everything. I'm fairly certain you would find it ridiculous to insult someone because they like pinto beans, so why would you insult someone because they listen to screamo music?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like your screen name, alot alot alot lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, there are things wrong with it. In fact, it sucks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha "Its under-appreciated, amiright? (-12)"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is under appreciated. Theres so much more put into a screamo song than a mainstream pop or rap song.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I belive people think that pop/rap whatever is good as they have not give other music a fair chance such as screamo/rock And your very right in what you said (scream for ice cream)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i like it(:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is rather impressive if they can perform a 50 minute concert

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why would you want to listen to screaming for 50 minutes?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He's not necessarily implying that he listens to Screamo for 50 minutes (Also, not all bands scream for 50 minutes..It also involves singing, to switch between the two is difficult, not everyone can do unlike other forms of music.). He's implying that it takes talent and skill to perform for 50 minutes at a concert. It takes a lot more time and effort than normal singing..A lot more than saying words in a rhythmic pattern. Go you for being ignorant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are taking things out of context. I know exactly what he was trying to say. I don't feel like arguing because I will never understand why people like it. I tried to like it once, but that didn't go well.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Personally, i like SOME screamo, and some of the lyrics really are genious. Try listening to some when you are angry, its awesome :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, i didn't like it at first, but once you get use to it, you like it. So give it a chance, and not be a sterotype.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same with me, i used to not like it, but now i love the devil wwears prada, motionles in white, etc. theyre amazing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The lyrics are fine...my issue with screamo music is just the sound it makes...I don't really like it...:p

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It takes alot of skill to do screamo actually, its not just screaming at the top of your lungs randomly. It takes alot of practice using your diaphram correctly when doing inhale or exhale screams. Most of the popular music today (rap, pop) is all edited and enhanced with computers. I'm not saying screamo isn't, but there are definitely some great screamo artists out there. It's good to keep your mind open to all music though, don't just judge an overall type because you can't fully understand it, or because the artists in that type of genre typically dress a certain way. Alot of screamo can be really poetic and deep if you take the time to listen to it, and that goes for any other genre really.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In my opinion it is wasted talent. Why scream? You can show strong emotion in a different way. I personally don't care about how the band looks, but screaming is just a waste.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is the thing that really annoys me, every time I say I don't like one thing or another someone has to bring out "I bet you can't do it, it takes lots of skill". I couldn't care less how hard it is to do, I am only worried about if it sounds good to me or not.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not everything that's not screamo is mainstream. Actually a lot of indie rock bands are WAY more talented than a lot of screamo bands, and mainstream artists.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels Eels!!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol yah, Eels is alright!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just alright? I think Eels are the best band of the past 20 years.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh sorry, I have a bad habit of using alright to mean something like spectacular lol Eels are actually really good! My favorite band is the Strokes, though. I think they were (and still are) one of the best bands ever.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah the strokes are great. Julian Cassablancas did a pretty neat solo album to, which you might be interested in.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, it was fucking brilliant. I liked that he didn't try to sound like the Strokes on it. Like Albert's solo project was cool but it was too similar to the Strokes. I can't wait till their 4th album.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh cool you heard it already. I'm looking forward to their 4th album too. Do you like the band Cake?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah Cake is great! I was really surprised when I heard them on that Apple commercial..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wait... what? I never saw that. What song was it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And a lot of indie rock bands suck more dick than Perez Hilton. Including bands you like. Get used to it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I find it very relaxing and enjoyable. And i think everyone forgets about how much talent most screamo guitarists, bassists, and drummers have. Way more than anything mainstream artists have.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like indie music too, as a matter of fact I liste- to everything... well basically, a lot of music (and I'm not saying all) is flat, with little to no actual feeling, screamo expresses not only anger but also , longing, deep sorrow, confusion, and even intense happiness. Not to say indie music ska music, even jazz

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yes it is there are some bands tht are screamo tht also sing such as Dead by April, Eyes Set To Kill, and Asking Alexandria (some) and i love all those bands

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lolwut I'm pretty sure that AA and ESTK are not screamo bands. I think half of the people commenting on this don't even know what "screamo" is. Just because they scream or growl or whatever in the song does not automatially make them a "screamo band" ...yep. I feel better now.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

i used to listen exclusively to screamo, and i honestly really miss it. it's good stuff (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I usually only listen to mainstream, but a little while ago I started randomly listening to some screamo bands. They're actually quite good. =) if you like bands like All Time Low, then I suggest listening to some songs by A Day To Remember - they're not exclusively screamo, and have a lot of very good songs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Anonymous) omg i love Eyes Set To Kill and Asking Alexandria. I was a little sad when i missed ESTK at warped tour.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*There's nothing wrong with good screamo. Just like any genere, you have to weed out the bad stuff. :B If you're judging it by bands like Brokencyde and Job For A Cowboy, try listening to Circle Takes The Square, pg.99, and similar artists. Then, once you have sampled the good stuff, come back and make a comment. If you don't like it, fine. That's your opinion and you're very well entitled to it. But, I don't believe that you can judge an entire group by the poorly performing parts within it. Also, the argument of 'not being able to understand what they're saying = bad music' is invalid. Try listening to metal--good metal, I mean--and then get back to me. Arch Enemy, Otep, Death, and even Metallica-- all great bands with well thought-out music, lyrics, and tones, but you can't really understand what they're saying. Heck, take foreign music. Just because you can't understand what they're saying, does that make it bad? Or, if you like rap, can you honestly understand what they're ...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Music is music. People will have different tastes in music and the fact that people are bashing it just because they don't like it makes them immature.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Screaming is just making a point.[; And I agree, it takes a lot of skill, it's not just mindless nonsense. :/ To the people who say "fags" listen to screamo: I'm happily listening to it now, and I don't give a damn about what you say about what I like. Thank you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I used to hate screamo and hardcore but then I just heard it so much that I got used to it. I think it's really relaxing and Christian screamo is really the best type of Christian music there is. so try listening to stuff before you hate on itttt :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Bring me the horizon and black veil brides are some of the greatest bands ive heard and they both do screamo (incase ur wonderin ima 13 year old girl)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

okay, you're a thirteen year old girl. your musical taste is going to grow up pretty soon-- believe me, there are other screamo bands that are a thousand times more talented. those bands are pretty mediocre in comparison to others.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You mean Black Veil Bitches? troll

by Anonymous 11 years ago

To those who hate: Hm, how 'bout you show me how well you can scream like this? You can't, so in all reality, these bands have more talent than you do. Oh, and find me a popular mainstream artist that doesn't use programs like autotune to make them seem talented before you start saying shit about the people that actually have talent. Kbai.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Bitch.): That's the worst argument I've ever heard...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You don't have to be a baker to know a cake tastes like shit.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Great quote! You should make this an actual post!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You sir, are a man amongst boys.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actual, many heavy metal/screamo artists don't actually scream when they're recording the song. They sing in a kind of loud whisper, then raise the volume and put in some loud music to go with it. So even then, not all of those artists are "talented". I know you already brought up that programs bit, but I just wanted to make sure you know it's not always a true scream.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You know that makes a lot of sense. I just tried to make up my own screamo song just now, and I must say holding a single sentence for about 12secs while screaming already has me out of breath.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Just because someone can do something cool with their voice doesn't make it good music.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You give female dogs a bad name.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard! There are so many different talents, so if someone screams better than me they have more talent than me? Yeah...no. I could be great at a certain sport and you great at screaming. Doesn't mean you can compare those two talents and say who is more talented because THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER. Nice try though :)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Just because I don't listen to screamo doesn't automatically mean I listen to top 40. As shocking as this may be, there are other genres.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

(Bitch) thank you!!! it takes pure talent to do this stuff so before u hate try it urself and then judge

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This kind of logic makes no sense to me. I'm not allowed to judge music unless I can do it myself? Really? Liking a band is about whether you like their sound, not whether or not you can do the same stuff they can. I couldn't come close to playing my favorite songs. Does that mean I can't judge them? Also, you don't like something just because they're talented, you like it because you find it appealing. I don't care if someone's amazingly talented, if I don't like their music, talent won't change that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

i love this page.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My favorite screamo band is called transgression, their music is awsome and my cousin does vocals. People who like screamo should have a listen :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

poetic screamo = La Dispute. check them out, they're pretty much overflowing with talent.

The Suit - The Way That We Fall

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why is this POTD?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why shouldn't it be POTD?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Usually a POTD is clever or relevant to a current world issue. This is just pop culture nonsense.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Then maybe it was time for a change from the usual. And I think it's a decent post.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You didn't even vote on it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So? I don't have to vote on everything.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Its sparking a lot of debate. Its always a good post when not every one agrees, that means its a legit opinion that not everyone agrees with.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Anthony gives out POTDs for BJs sometimes http://ctrlv.in/77821

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Shit. I'll give him a bj for POTD.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Controversial posts make good POTDs.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Do you see the flamewar this shit stirred up? I'd say it's pretty successful.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It is under-appreciated. It's a lot like communism, and Jay Leno. Nah, I'm just kidding, guys. I hate Jay Leno.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

YAAAAAAAAAAAAA REEEEPOLASHAAAAAAAA DROOOWWWWWNNNNNNNNN IN YOOOOOOOUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRR GGGGGGGGGGRRRRRROOOOOOUNDDDDDDDDD

by Anonymous 11 years ago

nailed it

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What's a repolasha?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's a deep and poetic Latin term for //"the damaged".// In more ancient languages, it's been traced to mean //"I don't know how to fucking sing".//

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It gives me a headache. Jazz is much easier to listen to.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If you're into it, that's fine, just don't shove it in other people's faces.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I might be biased because I love screamo, but it seems like it takes more talent than rapping or pop music. It also has better lyrics than most mainstream pop/rap like Justin Bieber, Nikki Minaj, Lil Wayne, etc.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

SCREAMO SUX AND BRUNO MARS IS THE BEST ARTIST EVER!!!!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Who ever liked my comment can go die. The name was lying troll. I mean, did you think I was serious? Silly kid, bruno mars is annoying.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

i like it when the whole songs not screamo, but parts of it are. it just sounds amazing

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Funk > Screamo, especially with drumming. I need me music I can groove to.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

boogie > funk. ah ah ah ah staying alive, staying alive.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There's nothing //wrong// with it. I wouldn't call it unappreciated though. It has as much appreciation as it deserves. Those who don't like screamo aren't going to appreciate it and those who do like screamo will appreciate it. That's just how it works.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It depends on my mood, but I can enjoy almost any music, including screamo. I love screamo sometimes.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yea, but most if screamo fans just assume when someone doesnt like it, either that he/she haven't listened to the good stuff yet, or that the he/she are on some intellectual level lower than their's just because it's poetic. I can understand screamo and its profoundness yet don't like it. Honestly, I find it headache provoking and barely amusing. BTW, not liking screamo =/ loving mainstream songs of artists of no talents.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'd say this is the threshold of tasetful screamo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wA5NmQESx8

by Anonymous 11 years ago

yeeeeeeeeeeeea! http://www.gifbin.com/981189

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Disturbed isn't screamo. Don't get me wrong, I love Disturbed too, but it's not screamo. Just cause David Draiman can do cool things with his voice doesn't make it screamo. (The grown in Voices is still the weirdest)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I understand that it is poetic and can have deep lyrics, I don't doubt that there are screamo bands that excellent at writing. I just have a problem with not understanding them. I don't want to have to look up the lyrics or have to listen to the song over and over to start to vaguely understand the lyrics. And even if I could understand them, I'm absolutely awful at dissecting poetry and understanding the meaning behind poems.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not being able to understand what they're saying doesn't stop people from listening to Nikki Minaj or Lil Wayne

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Don't you dare degrade poetry saying screamo is poetic, fuck you.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Metal (not screamo) is amazing. Whenever I listen to bands, I don't just listen to the vocals, I pay attention to the guitar riffs, the notes, bass and drums and even keyboards if they have it. Metal songs are jist so dynamic, that I hear something new every time I listen to it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I thought there was going to be a pun involved but it turned out to just be a genuine opinion.. I probably shouldn't be this disappointed about it. =/

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Nothing wrong with it, but as far as "under-appreciated", that depends on the band itself. There are piles of shit in every sector of music, but you can't use them to generalize an entire genre.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Screamo? What do you mean by that? Deathcore? Grindcore? Easycore? Lifecore? Truth be told there isn't a genre known as screamo because it varies so vastly. There are bands like Cannibal Corpse (all screaming, not my type). Then there are bands like ADTR (clean vocals a lot of the time, some screaming, my type). They aren't usually considered screamo, but they fit the genre of post hardcore.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The fact that people still say screamo makes my cringe. But, it is underappreciated and I don't think most people understand the talent that goes in to the music. The bands themselves are really underappreciated, since I've been to a few shows with like 10 people there, and they have to struggle to get gas money for their van just to get to the next date

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So much hate lol

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Screamo is my guilty pleasure and it actually really relaxes me.. It's so calming for some reason to me. And it can be really good if you take the chance to open your ears to it. I mean no, it's definitely not everyone's genre of music for sure. But it's definitely underrated..

by Anonymous 11 years ago

While I'm not a fan of screamo myself, I certainly don't think there's anything "wrong" with it. It does take a lot of talent and maintenance in order to preform that type of music. As a singer myself I can tell you that it's VERY difficult. But it's not like the only bands that aren't metalcore are just mainstream pop/rap, unlike what other comments seem to be saying. (I.E "Well it's better than all the talent-less, mindless shit that's being made today). There's a lot of other really talented bands/artists with clean vocals. Side note: Is "screamo" even a real classified genre of music?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's not under-appreciated, because it's not the kind of thing that's appealing to a lot of people. I admit there's some that's ALRIGHT, but it doesn't deserve to be more appreciated anymore than it already is, because like I said, it's not the kind of thing that a lot of people can get into.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Auahahahahaha. Oh wait, youre serious? Lemme laugh even harder. AHAHAHAHAHAH

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I used to hate screamo, even rock. But all my friends listened to it all the time and I began to get used to it and then slowly started liking it. Now i love it. Some of it I can't stand but bands like Woe, Is Me and Dance Gavin Dance are amazing.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The thing about screamo is the fact screaming correctly is really tough to do. People always complain that the screamers are ruining their voices, when actually screaming hardly involves your vocal chords. Also its like any other kind of music, it is misunderstood for what it actually is. Most people don't find it to be very appealing, but personally i think rap and country sound unappealing. Also, screamo bands have the most deep and original lyrics, although most of the time you have to look them up, they are good. Some of the best Christian bands are screamo. However churches just hear how it sounds and think its demented and automatically say no to it. Its almost an acquired taste

by Anonymous 11 years ago

To get into screamo don't start with like the devil wears prada or super hardcore screamo bands. start with popcore screamo-ish bands like A Day to Remember, These Hearts, and Atreyu and you will slowly start to like it

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I just plain don't like the sound of it. Believe me, I wish I could listen to it, but my ears are not having any of that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I hate screamo. Coming from a guy that has to listen to it all morning.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The amount of downvotes on legitimate opinions on this post is too damn high!
