+575 Everyone assumes that turrets syndrome forces a person to swear because of Souhtpark, but in reality it can be any range of motions or actions, including ones that don't exactly draw attention to you. For example, you could blink only every three seconds, lick the top of your mouth at random intervals or take a slightly deeper breath every 5th time you breathe in, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yea. I'm tired of all of these ignorant people who think turrets along with many ther health problems that people face are just jokes. Grow up already.

my friend has tourettes. all he does, sometimes when he starts talking after pausing , he slightly stutters. it's incredibly hard to notice unless you know it's there .

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly. These health problems that people face and have to deal with everyday aren't always what the general public makes them out to be.

My brother had a friend who hooted. Like, legit hooting, like an owl. But he was able to laugh at himself and encouraged other to do the same, because it was pretty funny. Sometimes he would hoot, unconsciously, a tune and we would make up words to it lol

I know what you mean. But I wouldn't just blame south park on peoples ignorance. There's a scene in the episode that explains what you just said. I think the youtube video where the guy screams bob sagot every few seconds is where people got that stereotype from

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i know what you're talking about, but every time I hear it,its usually followed by "Like that southpark episode"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The only reason I disagreed is because you are a really bad speller, but if you do have *tourettes* then yeah, you usually yell stuff out- not always swear words- but its usually pretty bad

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ditto.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oops, sorry about that i spelled it tourets and got the squiggly red line. it corrected itself to turrets like gun turrets so i assumed it was right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh well okay :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The way you say it kinda makes it seem like your talking about OCD.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How so?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because when people have OCD they do things in certain increments, like blinking every 3 seconds, or licking the top of their mouth in a rhythm.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Jaja that is awesome.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Some of these are called habits (licking the top of your mouth at random times for example like i do)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

although thats true, these are actual tourettes symptoms

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Cool story Hansel

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the south park episode also had the people with touretes do random things, not just swear. I believe one of the kids snapped and shook her head or something like that

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know, but a lot of people have never seen the full episode, just the clip from youtube & i made this post because every time I hear it,its usually followed by "Like that southpark episode"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. My brothers best friend has tourrettes, (it got so bad he had brain surgery for it) and never once has he had a cussing tick

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My uncle's brother (uncle by marriage? so idk what his brother would be called in regards to me) has tourettes, and he kind of just makes clucking someone chicken-ish noises when he's not speaking, and kind of stutters on some words. but I agree. I have one friend who just assumes all people with tourettes do is just swear loudly, and she doesn't even watch South Park.. :

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My guy friend has it and he shakes his head because of it, but it looks like he's flipping his hair. So it's not as noticeable. He also blinks a little more than most people. He gets teased for it a lot, but I stick up for him if I'm around when it happens.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Good for you! That's great of you to stick up for him.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My 9 year old neighbor has it and hits herself and sometimes curses at people when she's mad, but its like bad words 9 year olds shouldn't know...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

For the record, the South Park episode you're talking about did mention that touretts can cause a person to do many different things besides swear. Although I agree with you that it definetley wasn't the focus of the episode.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*paste I know, but a lot of people have never seen the full episode, just the clip from youtube & i made this post because every time I hear it,its usually followed by "Like that southpark episode"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, if you mean "Tourette's" and you had actually seen the South Park episode you referenced, you'd know that they depicted other children with other ticks, i.e. the snapping of fingers at different intervals.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And if you'd bothered to read the other comments, you'd realise why the OP wrote about South Park anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you. I've only copied and pasted it three times
