what happened to the ten? and, there is no equal sign...
by Anonymous13 years ago
You don't need an equal sign since there's an inequality sign... You can simplify an inequality in the same way that you can simplify an equation. And the 10 was gotten rid of when 14 was subtracted from both sides.
by Anonymous13 years ago
No offense, but you're unbelievably stupid.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yea it's right, your not a real nerd lol
by Anonymous13 years ago
You're* I am a real nerd.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I and U are two different variables and you cannot divide them into eachother...?
by Anonymous13 years ago
You can't divide the variables, but you can simplify the involved constants.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm not dividing i by u, I'm dividing what they're being multiplied by. For instance, if i=4 and u=6, 4<18=8<36.
by Anonymous13 years ago
it doesnt matter if they are two different variables, your dividing out the leading coefficients . Therefore it does work. And I got to use the word therefore.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yes it does...that would be like saying i+i+i=u+u+u+u+u+u=u+u+u.
Learn math.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Actually it is more like saying 2*(i)< 6*. From there the two and six are not linked to the variable and you can see that by dividing the two from the left and the right, you get i<3u. Genius.
by Anonymous13 years ago
and by that, i meant =U+U. LOL
by Anonymous13 years ago
You're not supposed to use lowercase i as a variable because in algebra, lower case i equals square root of -1.
Siplifies like this.
14^2+2^2(-1)^2>4^2+6u^2+10^2
196+-4>16+36u^2+100
192>36u^2+116
192-(116)>36u^2+116-(116)
76>36u^2
2.1111111111>u^2
u<~1.453
<math>
by Anonymous13 years ago
Finally someone who knows i = -1. I was reading all these comments and I guess no one here got past Algebra 1...
by Anonymous13 years ago
It doesnt always mean -1, while its generally accepted it can just be a variable unless specified that this is an imaginary number. SCIENCE!
by Anonymous13 years ago
As for your idea of not being past algebra one, I agree many here have not. But I agree it didnt state this is a imaginary number so it should be taken as a variable. But from a Linear Algebra and Differential Equations student (basically Calc 4) that in general, this post is very much correct.
by Anonymous13 years ago
i always thought... isn't i the square root of -1? i feel really dumb if it's not... shoot. all my math teachers lied to me!
by Anonymous13 years ago
OK PEOPLE, if you all want to be technical (as i see you do) then i is not the equivalent of √-1.
√-1 is the equivalent of 𝘪. THE 𝘪 MUST BE ITALICIZED TO EQUAL THE SQUARE ROOT OF -1, TECHNICALLY. And for the record, I also have higher than algebra 1 instruction (I am in 10th grade currently and am in AP Precalculus). I also happen to have a 187 IQ, but as of now, I don't know if my IQ and my advancement and natural ability at math correlate.
This is a hell of a lot work put into one post.
Calm your nipples kids
by Anonymous13 years ago
Thank you. And btw, calm your nipples is my favorite new thing ever.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Aw! That's cute:)
by Anonymous13 years ago
This would make so much more sence if the OP would have first said "solve for i" then there wouldn't be any problems because i would be taken as a variable and you would have known to take everything fro the i side away!
by Anonymous13 years ago
Nerds.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Mathematics takes you somewhere in life :)
by Anonymous13 years ago
how about you pussies go argue about math over a game of magic the gathering or something...jesus
by Anonymous13 years ago
You're so cool. I wish I was as cool as you. I wish I could not pay attention to any school studies and end up working at Burger King asking people if they want a sandwich or a meal all day.
by Anonymous13 years ago
At least i have sex
by Anonymous13 years ago
Just because I'm smart doesn't mean I can't get laid. It just means I don't have to pay for two dollar hookers.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Chill out, man. Some people don't like math. Don't get your panties in a bunch. I don't particularly like math but I have a 4.1 GPA. Just because I don't like math doesn't mean I'm not smart or not good at math.
Don't assume.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm not saying people who don't like math will end up like that, I'm saying people who think everybody who actually wants to learn something in their life is a nerd and can't get any girls.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yeah, true, I understand that. I didn't mean to sound like a bitch but I reread my post and it kind of comes comes off that way.
by Anonymous13 years ago
And also, why would i want to get girls? I'm not a lesbian...
by Anonymous13 years ago
First of all, it is possible to get a good job without being mathematically skilled. Do you think historians must know how to solve algebraic equations? Do you think politicians need to know what an asymptote is? Do you think it is necessary for lawyers to find the circumference of a circle? No, it is not. Also, I've never had to pay for sex a day in my life, thankyouverymuch.
by Anonymous13 years ago
They all do if they want to graduate high school. And I didn't know you were a girl, your name is FaucetFace. And I'm fine with that just don't judge other people for having an interest in it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm just saying that math isn't the only way someone can be seen as smart. And does FuacetFace seem manly?...cause i really don't know.
by Anonymous13 years ago
And that's fine. And it seems neutral.
by Anonymous13 years ago
haha, ok good. problem solved.
by Anonymous13 years ago
To anyone STILL fighting over this: IT WORKS.
See, you collect like-terms on each side. On the right side, it would be the four and the ten, making fourteen. The left HAS no like terms.
14 + 2i < 4 + 6u + 10 = 14 + 2i < 14 + 6u
Then you could subtract the fourteen from each side.
2i < 6u
Both are divisible by 2, so once you divide it by 2, you get i<3u.
by Anonymous13 years ago
actually, since i is a constant (radical -1), you solve for u, and it's u>i/3
by Anonymous13 years ago
I didn't say to solve, I said to simplify.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Chelsey, again, since the i was not italicized (e.g. 𝘪) then it is a variable. it is only used as the imaginary number (√-1) if it is italicized (𝘪). Seriously, when you people learned about these imaginary numbers, did you pay attention to anything else than what you THINK is now correct? Seriously, you people are either REALLY inattentive, or you only have enough memory span to fill a teaspoon.
