+146 Today's music isn't real music. It's not written by the artists. There's no real instruments. It's not real emotion. It's digitalized crap and it's not what music should be, amirite?

Then you're listening to the wrong music.

Electronic music expresses emotion, just in a different way.

Okay, this is a quote from a still true singer: "True musical creations are typically launched via pure inspiration or serendipitous moments and ideas that are often baked to perfection through sheer work and dedication. Still, many musical artists have opted to churn out songs with a cookie-cutter, assembly line mentality, cramming albums with formulaic songwriting, by-the-book tolerances and the kind of bullish one-upmanship that’s more commonly seen in a corporate — and definitely not creative — environment." Different drummer/backup vocalist: "“We had talked about how so many contemporary rock records have that formulaic, heavily layered, mechanical, shiny sound to them,” Sanderson says. “They start sounding generic and fake." Yeah. Most of the top 40 songs are about things that people, mostly kids and teens, shouldn't care for or listen to. Anybody every heard the song about "Call me mr. flintstone, i can make ur bed rock"? Yeah, my 10 year old sister told me to...

I totally agree, which is why basically everything I listen to is from a totally different time period, but there are a few artists today that actually are good musicians. Check out Alexz Johnson, Tegan and Sara, and Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie, Postal Service). Especially Gibbard-- he's the best writer of this time, in my opinion.

It really depends what sort of music you're listening to. Top 40 music is always digitalized crap, but that doesn't mean you have to listen to it..
