+391 In The Little Mermaid, Ariel gets married, but shes only 16 years old. That seems kinda young, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes she was way too young

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not in fish years. The top half was too young, but the bottom half was allllllllllllllright.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, it seems kinda old.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

LOL@ ur name. When was the movie made?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yep, that's the joke. (it was me)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Cool bro. (This was me BTW)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't believe you!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Anyway, it was made 1989 (I was thinking older) so that is pretty young.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, for the time period it's not so ridiculous.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

1989? Or what period was the movie set in? I dun remember, but you're probably right that it wouldn't be unusual. Also, the creators probably never imagined anything like the Internet and over-obsessing about pop culture.

Well, the book that the Disney movie was based off of was published in 1837, according to Wikipedia.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ok. The Disney movies are radically different from the books they're based on, but the time period does look around 1800's.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, until your first reply it never really occurred to me that they were talking about the movie, I immediately thought of the book... Even thought I've never read the book wary

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually in the book, Ariel was 15. Though you'd like to know... “ 'When you have reached your fifteenth year,' said the grand-mother, 'you will have permission to rise up out of the sea, to sit on the rocks in the moonlight, while the great ships are sailing by; and then you will see both forests and towns.' ”

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ah, I think I remember hearing that somewhere.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

In the original book she doesn't get married to the prince anyway. She dies.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is true, she turns to sea foam, but I still thought of the book.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Its because she's mexican, the get married early.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not that much; Aurora and Jasmine were both sixteen, and Snow White was about fourteen (though she never exactly gets married, it's just implied) But yeah. Compared to now, it's pretty damned young.
