+158 You can't say that someone from Asia is Asian, they must be Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, etc.. "They are all so different." You can't say that someone from Central American is Mexican, they must be Guatemalan, Puerto Rican, etc... "They are all so different." But if you're from Europe... well it's okay to call you white. That's unfair, amirite?

Guatemala isn't IN Mexico.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because (despite the fact that it's non-native) at least most of central America speaks one of two languages.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Boo hoo. You actually can call people from Asia Asian. You can also call someone from Central America a Central American. "White" refers to someone from Europe. I certainly would be annoyed if someone called me Italian when I am clearly German. However, this is not the case, as Europeans are lumped into the "white" or "Caucasian" category. Stop bitching about how its "unfair."

White is a race, Mexican is a nationality. and Asian is anyone from Asia so you can call them Asians, you just can't call japanese, koreans, vietnamese people etc as "chinese" because China is a different country.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with you. I've never seen anyone compare a nationality to a race.... Also the only time I see "white" being thrown around is to describe Americans, if they meet a European, they will call them European (if they're uncertain of the country they come from), otherwise they'll just call them by the country which they come from. And btw op, since when can't you call an Asian, Asian?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hmm but now that i think about it people do use Asians to refer to race, like the "yellow" race when technically i'm also asian, however im a different race. Still the OP is wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well yeah Asian is a race, but the main point is the OP is wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

no it isnt, Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis are all asians but they are a different race.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Look, I'm just trying to disagree with the op, I know my races and all, but I really don't care right now about being right about that

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Does this person seriously think that Guatemalans and Puerto Ricans are Mexicans?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This post is stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've never heard anyone say that it was wrong to call an Asian an Asian......and I'm Asian. We're from Asia, so what's wrong with it? But don't call people from Central America Mexicans. ..Because they're not Mexicans. But as for Europeans, most are mixed anyways. It's not like I'm gonna call someone a "GermanItalianIrish" person.... plus white is a race. So like most people said, this post is stupid.

It's fine to call Asians Asian. That's what we are. If you call a Japanese person Chinese, that's weird. I think it's ok to call white people white, too, just as long as you don't call a French person Spanish or whatever. It's hard to know what to call someone from Central or South America, though, because it seems like it keeps changing. Is it Hispanic? Latino? Everything I say seems to offend someone.

So if your russian, and you look white, Then that must make me a white russian. I wonder if they will ever make a drink out of me.

420 question for the stoners How do I know the color blue to me , is the same color blue to you? And if there is anything my people (White) have learned through the years with over throwing countries is: "Never trust the White man, there is a better word than FORKED." We lie, lie, lie and how dare those American Indians find the land before us.
