+378 When a band you really like gets popular (Owl City for instance) you absolutely hate it but then you feel bad because they're really good and deserve it, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I feel the same way, except I don't like Owl City so I'm not going to Yeah You Are it :D haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Except I only hated that Fireflies started out as a great song but once it got played every 10 minutes on the radio I didn't want to listen to it anymore

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why would them becoming famous make you hate them?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because man, you can't have them living nice and happy lives! They have to be poor and starving, in order for a teen who gets everything handed to them (by their parents), in order to be able to relate to them....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha I was thinking that too. What a pro-hipster post this is!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Great minds think alike, is it true that birds of a feather, fuck together?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it can be!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I guess, but just because I can't relate to a band doesn't mean I hate them..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well there are people out there who say they like bands that they can actually relate to and have normal lives, instead of superstar lives

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We all know that's not really it, most of the time though. It's usually just "oh boo hoo, there's another name off my oh-so-underground, indier-than-thou list- onoes what if people think I like MAINSTREAM stuff?!? Then I won't be keeewler than them!" *eyeroll*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I can't stand people like that, but people who go with mainstream stuff, because it IS mainstream are just as bad

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh I agree; maybe even worse. Liking something just because other people like it is laaame, and usually not even honest. At least the hipsters really like their stuff; the others are usually poseurs... "Oh I just LOVE (whatever)! They're so awesome! My favorite song...? Um, I can't remember the name... I'm terrible with song names... it had that part about that, uh, guy..." Lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, I can't stand people who lie about that kind of stuff... I agree, they're worse

by Anonymous 13 years ago

KickAss has a good reply, but to answer you seriously it's because some people seem to think that liking something other people don't know about makes them "special" somehow, or cooler than other people. It's pretty pathetic actually, to begrudge a band their success even a little bit, for your own selfish ego.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ya, and when the band starts to become more widely known they'll get mad that people are starting to like them and are like "well I actually liked them before they were famous". It annoys me quite a lot because I too would have liked them before they had become famous if I would have heard of them before, I don't just like them to "be cool"..

Fireflies (once you ignore it's overplayed, mainstream, annoying nature) is an amazing song. One of his best, really. If My Heart Was a House, Sunburn, To The Sky, and Hot Air Balloon should all be played more. And by the by, Owl City is very unpopular in my town. I am the only fan, aside from one of my closest friends. Everyone else hates it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(im gonna be the jerk who says it) owl city isnt a band though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nevershoutnever! is my all-time favorite musician. I hate how he's getting popular, but I'm also really happy for him... I just don't want him to become like Beibs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nevershoutnever! is dangerously on the edge of going the Bieber route. :( At least he has talent though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know :(. He's my hero, I went to one of his shows and met him back in November. He's AMAZING live. I love how he never uses auto-tune or anything like that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm so jealous! I'd love to see him live!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He's amazing. He sounds like the same live as he does on his albums/EPs!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'd YYA this but I can't stand Owl City.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes and no, because Owl City suuuuuuucks!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Reminds me of when I was liking a certain user on youtube who made great videos and whatnot that seemed extremely weird, but then RWJ showed his videos on his channel and now every comment is "What were you smoking?" when before that, the comments were much more diverse than that.

Hipster

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, poor Metric. Got put in Eclipse, and BANG,

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I adore Metric!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Huh?! They got put in Eclipse? What song? D:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have no clue, but I got two of their albums for Christmas, and one mentioned it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not fond of Owl City now, but I remember August 2009 my friend and I were in her mom's car driving to a fair, and she said "Oh! I have to show you this song about Fireflies." and I was like "wtf fireflies, is it some shitty rap comparing them to bullets?" anyway it wasn't popular where i was at yet, and i got the "wtf" comment on video, so i at least have proof i heard it before it was popular. not that that matters but it's cool to remember. ^-^ the end

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I smell a hipster...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

God forbid any band you like find success. Btw, Owl City isn't a band. It's just one guy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was really into Owl city in 08, and then they became popular. I must have some "hipster" qualities..or possessive or something, because when I feel like I'm the only one who knows a band, I don't know.. I feel like they're all mine. Then when they get famous, they aren't anymore and everyone acts like they discovered them. Even though I didn't discover them.. for some reason it bugs me really bad.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't act like you don't get a LITTLE annoyed when someone says they love your favorite band but they only know the most popular song.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

we just don't like our music going mainstream cuz we can't stand fangirls and people claiming its their favorite band when they only like their one popular song
