+745 When a women doesn't want to give up her last name and she and her husband are naming their kid, instead of putting a hyphon inbetween their last names, they should combine the two names into a more awesome word. Instead of being Smith-Porter, it should be Portsmith or Smorter, amirite?

This girl I know had the last name of "Funky", and got married to a guy with the last name of "Ho", so she hyphonated it and its Funky-Ho. Haha true story.

hahaha! i'm totally going to do that.

This post made me laugh, as did the comment by Anonymous. xD Combining names is a really good idea.

I think I might hyphen my name when I get married, combining any name with 'Reid,' doesn't seem like it'd be a good idea. D<

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Reid is a tough one, but it could work depending on what the other name is.

Better than Kandola!

Is that your last name, seriously?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yup!

Go away; your pedantry isn't needed here.

I know a woman with the last name of Dickman and a man with the last name of Whitehead. If they had a kid their name would be either Whiteman or Dickhead.

I'm not marrying a woman that wants to keep her last name.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wouldn't that be technically be giving up her last name? Also, my parents hyphenated my last name and I would probably hate them if they had stuck me with some stupid mashup of their names.

My last name is villan (pronounced like villain) and my doubles partner name is hot. Team name: hot villan.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That pretty much only works for English names though. My last name has 5 syllables and 10 letters... Yeah, just try and combine that with anything else and other name's going to get chewed up and spat out.

(Your+name+(optional)): I don't know about that. My last name is four syllables and nine letters, super German, and it could combine with another name easily. But it probably just depends on the exact name.
