-163 Its amazing that there are an estimated 6000 languages in the World. Probably more. And soo many people are bilingual. Yet, a great number of languages are disappearing because children are not speaking the language of their parents. Even more, all over the World, the language being taught to kids is English. Honestly, looking at the rules, English is an awful langauge. Amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

English is the best, you're just mad because it took you forever to learn it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

English is a beautiful language and has produced many great speeches, scripts, works of literature, you name it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So why post this in English?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, you don't even know how to write correct grammar in the English language, do you?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're an idiot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not as idiotic as your grammar, if you're the OP.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not the OP, but still you're an idiot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

why agree to the post, then?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are two reasons why English is being taught to kids these days, 1. Its one of the top 3 simplest languages in the world and 2. Because most movies, shows and products that dont suck ass come from the U.S. see?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Also, because America's education system is horrible and all the white trash people refuse to learn another language (I mean, really, they get pissed at machines telling them "Press 1 for English.")

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, I'm not white, but I'm still pissed as hell when I live in fucking American and have to press 1 for English.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Um, actually English is one of the most difficult languages to learn. It's just one of the most spoken languages across international borders.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wouldn't it be better if there was less languages spoken? If most of the world speaks the same language communicating with other countries would be much easier.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well duh, but we didnt choose to make each new language, just like each culture and race

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You had me until the English thing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

English is good but they're too many rules and too many exceptions to those rules.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I spoke two languages as my mother-tongue. English and Arabic (Parents..) and from the variety of family that has lived with me (tradition) I have become multi-lingual. When you think about it and actually study English you will realize that it is not only difficult because of the MANY irregulars but also it's really such a mess because it's a mix of so many other tongues. I'm just saying that it sucks that the World isn't being taken over by a more firm language, like French or Spanish.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You've obviously never tried to learn French. You fucking ignorant piece of shit. French is fucking difficult and irregular as fuck, so go die.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You go die you disrespectful idiot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

THAT comment just showed how much of a fucking ignorant piece of shit YOU are. Just because it was hard and 'irregular' doesn't mean it is for everyone.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actual having a universal language would be a good thing. It's hard to have world peace when we can't understand each other. And who says that language has to be English? It's not even the most commonly spoken language around the world, so chill.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like this post. I was always that kid jealous of every other kid who knew how to speak a different language. They all sound beautiful and exotic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i agree.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

English has become a standard around the world which has made it useful and convenient. I'm bilingual though and I have to agree that as convenient that English is, it's a stupid (for lack of a better word) language and has no beauty in it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

English has an order of magnitude more words than any other language. To me, being able to express exactly how I feel (choosing words that have different connotations and shades of meaning and histories) is what's beautiful.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I guess that this is where we agree to disagree then. I speak Urdu (almost the same language and Hindi) and I believe that Urdu lets me be "able to express exactly how I feel (choosing words that have different connotations and shades of meaning and histories)", much more than English does.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with you. I can speak Hindi and there are many words that you cannot translate exactly into English because they simply do not have the right words to describe it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

English doesn't have five thousand tenses to learn like spanish does.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

agreed with the tenses, loving the universal language concept. and i dont theink we should say english is hard. maybe the countries that think its hard are just stupid anyways.... Nah, thats mean, and makes the english speaking countries seem like their superior. i think we sholdnt bag on other languages.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Kids are taught English because if it wasn't for England, the US, Canada, and Australia, most of the world would be speaking German or Russian.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

French is harder to learn then English. Formal, informal, more verb tenses, and the conjugation switches with every pronoun. And to say English is an ugly language have obviously never heard the Beatles or read William Shakespeare.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not "ugly." It's just not the best language for everybody in the world to speak. We have too many irregular verbs and illogical rules.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

FUCK YOU OP

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm worried by the comments on here. For one english is known as one of the hardest languages to learn. Spanish and french are actually much easier to learn. Also, english isn't a beautiful language compared to most languages. Its crude and doesn't flow like chinese or spanish does. I agree with the op.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How on earth does a language not "flow"?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm going to have to agree with you on this. A lot of people are noting great things done in English (speeches, music, etc.) but we should all be learning French because it is the most concise language.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But why is being concise the paragon of verbal expression? Shouldn't we aim for accuracy at the very least, and poetry at the most? And if we should all be learning one language, it's Latin.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Agreed guys. I actually HAVE learned French and Spanish. I took both classes. Being multi-lingual, I agree that it was easier for me to learn those leanguages (peope who are bilingual learn new langauges faster) BUT english is still difficult because of the abnormal numbers of irregulars, spelling, etc. French, Arabic, LAtin are all beautiful languages and if there had to be one, it shouldn't be English. English lacks that flow and ease.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't hate English, as it's my mother tongue and has benefitted me in many ways internationally, but I dislike that it has become THE language to learn, even in third-world countries that don't really need it. Like for instance, where I'm living in Yemen, you cannot become a doctor, engineer, or scientist without knowing English first. Kids go from highschool knowing not a word of English, and then are thrown into an all-English environment in university. It's pathetic because they have to learn mathematical terms and equations in English as well, even though the Arabs were the first to come up with those terms in the first place centuries ago.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone should calm down. The poster is technically right. S/he is in the wrong say english is an awful language, but it is proven to be one of the hardest to learn. I live in America,so I was taught english, but I recently took spanish and understood why people could say that.
