+324 Hitler was Austrian, so stop trying to use it to insult Germans, amirite?

He ran Germany and the Nazis were German. However, I'm not going to hate Germans because of history.

You can't hate a country because of its history. And Hitler was Austrian-born, and he took over Germany...

Hitler was Austrian, but the people who elected him and did all the work weren't.

It's Fegelein's fault.

Hitler used Germany and the Germans to do unspeakable horrors. The average person doesn't say this to insult Germany, but because it is a FACT. That said, I do believe many people, at least in the US, know nothing more of Germany than Hitler and Holocaust. And that IS an insult.

I see how that's not a good thing, but I don't know if you can call it an "insult." I mean, it's not like it's anybody's fault that they don't know much about Germany, and just not knowing something doesn't mean you're trying to insult somebody. I'm not trying to be insulting here, but the Holocaust was a major event affecting the world that happened to originate in Germany. If there's another event in Germany's history that has affected the entire world, please share it. (That's why we only learn about the Holocaust, because we only learn about events in other countries that were major)

they also happened to start the first world war. You're so ignorant.

People need to stop using the word Nazi to insult Germans, anyway. It's ignorant and unoriginal. That'd be like other countries calling Americans "slave owners" to this day, just because of something that happened in their history.

I honestly did not know about this. and my class did a month long unit on the holocaust, it never came up...

Stalin was also from Georgia, not Russia btw

There have not been slaves in the United States for a very long time. The Holocaust was less that a century ago. Yes, Hitler was Austrian, but the Germans worshiped him.

Hitler's nationality was Austrian until 1925 when he became stateless but Austrians are ethnic Germans and speak German and before 1866 Austria was seen as not just part but the leader of Germany (Holy Roman Empire of the German nation), in 1866 Prussia defeated Austria as whether Little Germany vs Greater Germany (Deutsches Bund) Prussia won and Deutsche Bund excluding all Austrian lands prevailed the German Empire in 1871, in 1918 the official name of Austria was German-Austria with an overwhelming of support for union from both countries to make Greater Germany happen but the Treaty of Versailles forbidded it, in 1938 the Anschluss was seen as the unification of the German people.
