+905 you were shocked when you found out that Spongebob was supposed to be an adult show but it got low ratings so they put it on Nickelodeon, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Seriously?

I'm not sure that this is true, but if it is I wouldn't be shocked. Spongebob is stylistically much closer to Ren & Stimpy or Aqua Teen Hunger Force than most parents realise.

It's a good thing most kids don't understand the jokes xD

I actually didn't know that. But I'm not surprised

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't believe this. Based on square roots I don't see how this is possible. Could you show me your source?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was meant for adult viewers 15 years ago. Then they cleaned it up, and put it on nick.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha, it's still an interesting fact though. I would have never guessed

I remember reading on TV Tropes that Adult Swim wanted to make an adult version of Spongebob where him and Patrick were a gay couple, but that was after the show had aired on Nickelodeon. I never heard anything about it being an adult show before hand.

What?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

spongebob is more like ren n stimpy n shit so it is more adult, if you need proof jsut count the extremley detailed face closeups they do which are hilarious

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually HIllenburg had been working at Nickelodeon for awhile and pitched SpongeBob to Nickelodeon exclusively.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nah, looked it up. Steven Hillenburg was ALREADY working for Nickelodeon when he pitched it.
