I am an indie fan, and listen to it because i like the way it sounds, and i have never met another person who likes indie for any other reason.

i listen to indie because the musicians actually make music for a living and put time into it to make it good. They arent millionaires that don't need anymore money so they stop putting time and effort into their songs. I mean, look at KOL. They were a bunch of smelly red necks from oklahoma when i first saw them and now they are pop stars with catchy pop tunes and not gritty indie rockers.

Screamo is popular because the people who listen to it think it sounds awesome, or if they can understand the lyrics, like the meaning of the song. But, I have heard a screamo song about a Catman, so that song would definetly be liked because of how it sounds.(:
