+303 You compare a foreign word to your native language's word and guess the definition of it, amirite?

I compare the language to Latin or Greek roots.

"queso.....must be a quest!"

It works a lot of the time with English:Spanish or English: French. Gotta love cognates. When I was taking Spanish, if I came across a word I didn't know, I would compare it to a word I knew in French, too. I'm fluent in neither language, but it was such a helpful trick!

Doesn't always work in your favor. For example, trying to say "I'm embarrassed" in Spanish... "embarazada" means "I'm pregnant".
