+859 Saying "Don't you dare" sounds perfectly normal, but when you don't use the contraction, it becomes "Do not you dare." Amirite?

I've thought about this before with things such as "Isn't it strange?"

can't you just shut up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's CANT you just shut up, stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its because you would then say "do not dare"

I've thought of others like someone says "He's here!" then you say "He's?" in stead of He is.

When you have a conjunction, you take away the pronoun... not that hard of a concept.

That's why it's DONT, not DON'T. If you can't say DO NOT in it, then it's just DONT. Duh, dude.

I always thought you put the not on the other side of the noun/pronoun.. like "isn't it strange?" becomes "is it not strange?"

Do you not dare.

Don't you dare can be either a command or a question. I was talking about question format. with commands (what you used) it's probably completely different.
