by Anonymous13 years ago

by Anonymous13 years ago
harry has a star shaped scar
by Anonymous13 years ago
im gay
by Anonymous12 years ago
by the by JessahAnn, the drinking of unicorn blood happened in The *Sorcerer's* Stone. Not the Philosopher's Stone
by Anonymous13 years ago
People in the UK call it the Philosopher's stone.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Is it really titled the Philosopher's stone then changed when the books were printed in america?
by Anonymous13 years ago
yeah, something like that. I'm not sure why though..
by Anonymous13 years ago
maybe because the american publishers thought we could relate to sorcerer better than philosopher. i dunno. Philosopher sounds better. they should have kept it
by Anonymous13 years ago
I agree.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Actually, Philosopher's Stone is a reference to the fictional stone that the Alchemists of old believed would grant immortality and turn any metal to gold
by Anonymous13 years ago
They changed it to the Sorcerer's Stone because, really, few Americans would read a book with Philosopher's in the title. The saddest part is, that's true.
by Anonymous13 years ago
its also the philosophers stone in australia (:
by Anonymous13 years ago
the philosophers stone is a legend based on early alchemic research. the name itself is hundreds of years old.
by Anonymous13 years ago
that makes sense because Nicolas Flammel was an alchemist.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Did you learn that from watching Full metal alchemist? ;]
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's Philosopher's Stone in Canada as well.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's Philosopher's Stone almost everywhere outside the USA, as far as I know...
by Anonymous13 years ago
Except for the countries where they don't speak English. It's "de vises stein" in Norway, meaning "the stone of the wise", pretty much.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Also called "Philosopher's Stone" in Canada
by Anonymous12 years ago
you americans just lost a little of my repsect. Everyone knows it was originally called "the philosophers stone" but was changed when the publishers realized americans would be too stupid to know what philosopher means.
by Anonymous13 years ago
That statement seems to hold prejudice... in America it is not widely know that the first book was called "The Philosopher's Stone". Also there is a culture difference between the U.S. and the U.K. The word philosopher is interpreted differently in our different cultures. The word in the U.S. is interpreted as a thinker and that only, while in the U.K. it can be interpreted also as an alchemist. So it isn't simply because "americans are stupid" (only some of us are).
by Anonymous13 years ago
@804376 (Dragonov): I'm American and I agree it's totally prejudiced, but sadly that is why they changed the title. They thought people who weren't British wouldn't know what philosopher meant so they changed the title.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Theres always that one person who can argue about which country is smarter than the other on a post about voldemort and unicorns, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Wow. I really just LOVE it when people call all American's stupid. Yeah, some of us are, so that apparently makes us all the same? The books are the SAME THING. The only difference between them is the words "Philosopher's" and "Sorcerer's". Everything else is the same. They both give off the same message, the same professors, the same classes. So really, there is no difference. I know the title shouldn't have been changed, I honestly think that the original title is classier. And guess what, I LIVE IN AMERICA. So please, before you go blabbing your mouth calling another country stupid, think about it and all the people who can see this.
by Anonymous12 years ago
SAME EFFING DIFFERENCE!
by Anonymous13 years ago
i dont get the big deal with the whole philosophers/ sorcerers stone thing. They SAY sorcerers stone. Or i dont remember in the book actually but in the movie they do
by Anonymous13 years ago
In the UK, they most definitely say 'philosopher' in the film. They may have overdubbed it in the U.S..
by Anonymous13 years ago
Whoa, that is crazy. Now I need to see the British version of the movie so I can hear them say "philosopher's stone."
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm pretty sure the movie was made by Warner Brothers, an American company. So it would be dubbed to philosophers. But I guess it depends on the release dates...
by Anonymous13 years ago
.. but with an all British cast etc. Rowling wanted the films to be British so they were. They're produced by a Brit etc etc. (obviously with a few exceptions). Also, apparently WB only made the 7th and 8th? I don't really know but that's what it said on Wikipedia, which is God. :L Anyway, even if they were produced in America, I'm pretty sure they would have originally used 'philosopher' as that is the original word and the U.S. is the only country that has it changed to 'sorcerer' (to my knowledge...).
by Anonymous13 years ago
Noooo HP were ALL made by Warner Bros. for sure! But I figured it out... Those scenes that mention either philosopher or sorcerer were filmed twice, prolly just that part of the scene!
by Anonymous13 years ago
Ha, maybe. We might never know. Does it really matter? :L
by Anonymous13 years ago
An unsolved mystery.. Hah it doesn't matter at all, quite pointless(:
by Anonymous13 years ago
This is months old now but I don't care:
The HP films were made by Warner Brothers UK under specific instructions from JK to use British acting talent only and British locations. All the films were shot in the UK and are British films. An American version was made of the 1st film but it's the British version everywhere else. Harry Potter is British, end of story. :P
by Anonymous12 years ago
anmericans are stupid cause they dont know what a philosopher is
and im gay

If lord Voldemort is a unicorn, then harry potter is a MERMAID!!!!!
by Anonymous13 years ago
(Shoulditbeobvious!?!):
.....when did Harry Potter eat a mermaid?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I never ate a mermaid.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Omg you aren't Harry Potter. Stop it ~.~
by Anonymous13 years ago
You didn't get down and dirty with the mermaid painting in the prefects bathroom?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Oh yes he did.
...Also, is it just me or does Harry have a startling resemblance to Moaning Myrtle in the movies?
Hehe.... (I couldn't think of a good joke involving Harry getting "down and dirty" and the fact that she's called 'Moaning' Myrtle... oh well...)
by Anonymous13 years ago
So true... So true...
by Anonymous13 years ago
@Shoulditbeobvious!?! lol, that is so funny, i felt like peeing!!!

by Anonymous13 years ago
Pauly D?
by Anonymous12 years ago
doesn't that mean that unicorns are cannibals?
by Anonymous13 years ago
It means that EVERYTHING is a cannibal.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Then where's his nose? Unicorns sneeze glitter, and they need noses for sneezing.
Does that mean that Harry Potter is a chocolate frog? If so, what does it mean when Ron pukes slugs? Disturbed...
by Anonymous13 years ago
Nah, that was out. Not in (:
by Anonymous13 years ago
i dont know
by Anonymous13 years ago
nononono. Prof. Quirrel did all the blood sucking of the unicorn. not voldimort! he did none of the sucking. none.
by Anonymous13 years ago
(smart jenny): but voldemort possesed Quirrel and was basicly controlling him and i guess the blood also went into voldemort (pardon me for my spelling )
by Anonymous13 years ago
you have no proof of that xD
they never mentioned in the book who really drank the blood
so maybe Voldi did drink it not Quirrel
by Anonymous13 years ago
That is mean Americans aren't dumb we know what the word philosopher means OH YEAH then in Australia it should be called THE KOALAS STONE and in england it should be called the British-teabaging-bigbenloving-englishlanguagedestroying STONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Anonymous13 years ago
How can the English destroy their own language? Stop taking it so seriously - they changed the name - so what?!?! Just enjoy the joke!
by Anonymous13 years ago
Er...you really didn't do a great job defending Americans there.
by Anonymous13 years ago
koala doesn't relate to philosophers or sorcerors , the last bit just made me laugh..England destroyed the english language really? LOL

by Anonymous13 years ago
If you are what you eat, then the unicorn must be grass therefore voldemort doesn't eat a unicorn, infact he eats grass so doesn't that mean that voldemort is grass?
by Anonymous13 years ago
But then the grass is the sun and the sun is hydrogen so that must mean that all Voldemort was really trying to do was make his voice really squeaky.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Shit I just realized that you get a squeaky voice from helium, not hydrogen. Yes, I'm retarded.
by Anonymous13 years ago
You would also get a squeaky voice from hydrogen. More so, even, because hydrogen is even lighter. So you actually didn't fail.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I thought unicorns ate sugar or something D:

by Anonymous13 years ago
No comprendo... ¿Tú puedes hablar en español? Porque eres tonto, y no necesitas burlarse a mi.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Fail. It's: burlarse *de mi. Also, the whole random Spanish thing isn't cute. You want to "insult" someone, do it in your common language.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Ah, fail. It's "It's" (without the colon.) I may not be able to speak Spanish, but at least I'm proficient in English. Pfft. An unnecessary colon? What are you, a third grader?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Seriously? The colon was necessary, you're just butthurt and wanted to find something to get at me with.
Failx2
by Anonymous13 years ago
Actually, any grammar expert will tell you that a colon is extraneous when used after a verb "it's" (it IS), or after a preposition.
Hey, at least I owned up to my mistake, rather than continuing to insist that I was correct to someone obviously more learned in the subject at hand.
by Anonymous13 years ago
"Extraneous." Exactly.
I believe that's your 3rd fail?
You're slacking, man.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Extraneous?
Main Entry: ex·tra·ne·ous
Pronunciation: \ek-ˈstrā-nē-əs\
Function: adjective
1 : existing on or coming from the outside <extraneous light>
2 a : not forming an essential or vital part <extraneous ornamentation> b : having no relevance <an extraneous digression>
http://lilt.ilstu.edu/golson/punctuation/colon.html
"One word of caution: do not place the colon after the verb in a sentence, even when you are introducing something, because the verb itself introduces and the colon would be redundant."
I believe you just got schooled. Learn to accept defeat, honey; maybe you'll be a winner someday.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Extraneous, but not incorrect.
Me- 1
You- 0
Another thing, I'm not, nor will I ever be, your honey. Take that faggot shit somewhere else.
And you claim you're so holy. Ha.
by Anonymous13 years ago
With all due respect, you're an idiot.

by Anonymous13 years ago
by Anonymous13 years ago
Not so scary anymore...
by Anonymous13 years ago
For anybody who was wondering, yes, the first book is Philosopher's Stone in England and Sorcerer's Stone in America because J.K. Rowling's American publishers thought that children wouldn't want to read a book with philosopher's in the title, and asked her to change it into something more exciting or magical. (Later she said she regretted the change). It has nothing to do with intelligence.
Oh, and in the movie every time philosopher's stone/sorcerer's stone was mentioned they filmed it twice, one for the American version of the movie and one for the English movie.
by Anonymous13 years ago
http://memebase.com/2010/12/01/memes-philosoraptor-no-wonder-im-a-virgin/
this has actually been out a long time before this post
by Anonymous13 years ago
Before there are any more arrogant people commenting, read the comments already posted before you say "*sorcerers*". It's not that hard of a concept to grasp... In America it is Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. The way it is in most countires and the way JK Rowling wrote it was as Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I meant ignorant....I'm tired, don't judge.

by Anonymous13 years ago
Excuse me, IS a unicorn...i am not dead, we all know that that was merely a typo! ;)
The original copy that jk made is philosopher's stone. I don't know why american's felt the need to change it...do they not know what a philosopher is?
by Anonymous13 years ago
No, we know that a philosopher is a boring person who typically thinks through... Well everything.
We don't have the connotation like in Britain of the alchemist, or whatever. I wouldn't have read that book, for, to me, a stone of a smart guy really isn't that interesting.
by Anonymous13 years ago
To be perfectly honest, we don't have the alchemist connotation either really. The whole thing is pretty much an old legend (I think). You just sound like a douche.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm american, I know that it is Philosopher's stone originally, and I'm sick of the American stereotypes that we don't like thinking, even if it may be true for some people.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well then that's judging a book by it's cover. The fact is that hp is so amazing and has made billions so clearly jk did well, so why try to change it? Why were none of the other titles changed? Hp and the chamber of the basilisk?
Also, the american versions actually have changed words IN the books! For example, book 5 at st mungos where in the original book a person has a satsuma stuck up their nose, in the american version it's a nut. Which i personally feel is nowhere as funny as it's way easier to get up one's nose. Do american's not know what a satsuma is? It's just stupid to change pure awesomeness you know? It's british, so leave it british.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm American and I've never heard of a satsuma until this comment. Ever. I looked it up and it looks like it's just a tangerine or a clementine- that's what they're called in America. We don't use the word satsuma; I even asked my mom what it was and she had no clue. You can think we're all idiots if you like, but I'm sure there's many words that Americans use often and British people have never heard of.
Maybe the American versions shouldn't have been changed (though I don't think they were changed much at all), but it certainly makes it tons easier for little kids to read them in America.
by Anonymous13 years ago
i'm an american so you can shut up! :(
by Anonymous13 years ago
Dude, I'm American and one of the first words I learned was satsuma.
by Anonymous12 years ago
No. He's unicorn blood.
by Anonymous13 years ago
He never ate a unicorn. He drank the blood of the unicorn, but never ate one.
by Anonymous13 years ago
@master_chief, thank you! The philosopher's stone does not originate in hp, it's what alchemists used to try to make. Therefore it makes zero sense to call it sorceror's stone when the philosopher's stone is a long-standing legend around which parts of the book was based!
by Anonymous13 years ago
We actually do use the word satsuma in America. You're right, it's basically interchangable for tangerine. But in the south, at least, we use satsuma as well.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't think YOU'RE stupid, i think the person in america who changed it is stupid...if it's interchangeable with tangerine then change it for that. It's just lame that some of the words that are changed take away the hilarity of some of the situations
by Anonymous13 years ago
if you type 'if you are what you eat' into Google this comes up as a suggestion
by Anonymous13 years ago
everyone who says sorceror's stone can now go jump off a bridge. IT WAS ORIGINALLY AND ALWAYS WILL BE PHILOSOPHERS STONE.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I AGREE THAT PHILOSOPHERS STONE SOUNDS BETTER BUT IM AMERICAN AND U CAN STOP CALLING AMERICANS STUPID FOR CHANGING THE NAME, IT WASENT US IT WAS THE PUBLISHERS ITS NOT LIKE WE VOTED

by Anonymous12 years ago
AWSOME!!
by Anonymous12 years ago
Oh, if only this was original.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Wait a minute they got the wrong person
Voldemort was framed
in book one voldemort ate a unicorn
you are what you eat
so technically voldemort is a unicorn
and since unicorns are pure and innocent
Voldemort is pure and innocent
All the evidence of the murders lead to Voldemort
but since he is pure and innocent, Voldemort was framed.
by Anonymous12 years ago
In my opinion as a bit they changed it for this reason.
Americans aren't stupid but they do seem to want to know the reasons for things
An american sees the term Philosiphors stone and craves to know why its called that. Why. There has to be a reason.
However a Brit sees this and is content to think that its called a Philosiphers stone because its called a philosophers stone. There doesn't have to be a reason why its just a name.
So Sorcerers gives a much more logical idea up front of why it would be called that.
In some ways your crave for reasons makes you better and worse. I am not here to judge
by Anonymous12 years ago
my friend today was feeling cruddy and he turns to me and says "you remember in harry potter, when voldemort's eating that unicorn?" "Yeah, why?" "I'm that unicorn" it was so fantabulous i died laughing!
by Anonymous12 years ago
LOL! I have to watch the american version to see if they say 'sorceror's stone'
by Anonymous12 years ago
lol. THIS literally made me ROFL .
by Anonymous12 years ago
Haha, the voldemort I know will never do something like that.... well in the movies that is :)
by Anonymous12 years ago
voldemort da unicorn... hmmmm : P
by Anonymous11 years ago
What if he sucked the unicorns rooster instead. Than ate it’s come. Plus back read comments. I know what philosopher stone is I watched full metal alchemist, and read stories with it on. I actually ironically thought that should’ve been the name. It gives me a headache reading “sorcerer stone” To hear that everwhere else is called what I ironically wished it was. It makes me relieved. But Why couldn’t it be called “Philosophers stone” in America. Not all of us are ignorant morons. Just most apparently.
