+576 Wait- in The Little Mermaid Ariel says "I'm 16 years old, I'm not a child!" And then about 2 days later she gets married.... so she was 16 when she was married? amirite?

Oh that depressed me ._.'

Yeah, this is why I never really liked the Little Mermaid. I also hated how they fell in love in less than three days. Like, really? The music was good, though. Really good.

But come on, who really knew their prince for at least longer than a week?

i love disney movies and The Little Mermaid is acutally one of my favorites but what bothers me about it s that shes getting married at 16 to some guy whos gotta be at least 20...i mean really come on disney!!

o.e This was in, what, the 1700s? Getting married at 16 to men older than that (sometimes wayyyy older than that - the guy being in his twenties would be no big thing) was commonplace and I'm prettyyy sure it was expected. They also had to marry earlier because their life spans were shorter. Sure, it's a bit iffy now, but don't force modern-day expectations on a movie that was clearly set in an era far gone.
