+589 It's easy to forget that Stephen Hawking is British, since his speech machine has an American accent, amirite?

He's British?

uh... yeah. haha.

Nobody tells me nothin'

What do you mean his voicebox has an American accent? It speaks in a robotic voice. It doesn't have an accent partial to any country.

the voice synthesizer was developed by an American company, so the recorded phonetic sounds used on the program are an American accent.

I guess I understand what you mean, I wouldn't be able to hear it if it did have an american accent. But most of the words aren't prerecorded, but are different sounds combined together as he types them.

Yeah, I get what you mean about it being a computer and not being made to have an accent, but they still have to record the phonetic sounds and stuff and since the programmers were American that's just how it came out, you know? Plus, Hawking said he finds American and Scandanavian accents work better with women. :)

Lol, Scandanavian.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Er, Scandinavian. My bad.

Bow chicka wow wow

Did you guys know that he uses the same voice synthesizer that he did in the 80s? There are much more advanced and pleasant sounding ones, but he says he's grown fond of that one. It's kind of romantic, in a sense. :P

Aw, that's sweet.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yep, it is easy to forget, so few people seem to even know. He was at one point wishing he sounded less American.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i do NOT blame him. if i woke up pne day and i was American, i'd end myself tbh
