+553 It doesn't make sense that people who receive welfare checks don't have to take drug tests, when the people who are willing to work do, amirite?

This is a facebook group.

Yes, it is a facebook group; one of my friends liked it today. That being said, you do realize the testing would increase the cost of the system exponentially? Also, the benefits are mostly given for the benefit of children. Anyone using hard drugs, especially if they're broke, is gonna get busted sooner or later. Those kids end up in the system... you start UAing everyone who gets food stamps or whatever there is now, you're going to be stuck with a very awkward problem... DHS workers will tell you straight up that they're not concerned about parents who are casual marijuana smokers, regardless of whether it's legal in the area or not. I can quote one as saying "if we took everyone who smoked a little pot's kids, we'd have half the kids in town". So, you do this drug test, and it's postive for pot... what do you do? Awwwkward... anyway, there's a multitude of reasons why mandatory drug testing for federal benefits recipients isn't a good idea.

I think that anyone on welfare needs to be using birth control. You can go to any clinic and get a handful of them for free. If you can't feed yourself, why should I reward you for popping out another kid by giving you more money? You can't tell people not to have sex so provide birth control. I don't care if you WANT kids, if you're on welfare then having a child is not the responsible thing to do.

Tell that to my sister-in-law. Anyway, Medicaid in Georgia opperates weird. You have to get approval from the higher ups for the pill. They make a huge deal out of it. But as soon as you have a have a kid, here's money for food, no questions asked. Irony know if it's the same everywhere, but that's how ga is.

I know someone who was living with a man and had kids with him, but she was working and so was he, so they could support them, but then he got abusive, so she had to run away. And she had to take care of her kids who were young and couldn't work. It wasn't her fault.

Moron, how do you think birth control helps with kids that already exist? Thanks for your irrelevant post.

i disagree with the comment about no drug testing, why should people get away with doing drugs. i do however think many drugtests are wasted, like my school who "randomly" chooses students. At first i thought it was odd they NEVER chose the clear druggies, but theni realized, our school now has a low drug rate compared to other schools because they choose the good kids. I think they need to get the kids who are actually in need of help, help and stop worrying about appearances
