+161 Sleeping Beauty shouldn't count as a Disney princess. Sure she had her own movie and she's a rincess and all, but she was more of a plot device than a character. She was unconcious most of the movie, during the climax no less, and no one even bothers to say her real name. She didn't even do anything but sing. The fairies were the real heroes. amirite?

Here name is aurora. she was named after the dawn because she shed new light on the kingdom. DUH! Go study your disney princess movies

by Anonymous 13 years ago

uh DUH! I know her real name. I said no one bothers to SAY her real name. Seriously no one calls her Princess Aurora, like they call other princesses Cinderella, Belle, Ariel or Jasmine. Even though most people know her real name they refer to her as Sleeping Beauty, almost never Aurora. Even the Disney company barely uses her real name.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Cinderella wasn't her real name, that was a nick name the step-sisters made up. Come on, man, know your fairy tales!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But her real name isn't actually said in the Disney version, so it's almost like she got a new name in that one. They changed pretty much everything else though, so why not?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe, but her real name isn't used either. She's as much of a Disney princess as Aurora then.... Don't diss one if you're not dissing the other with the same situation ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not just her name that makes her a lame princess, it's the fact that Sleeping Beauty didn't do anything to make her own dreams come true, or really do anything except sing, cry, pass out, then dance. Cinderella worked hard on her chores hoping that would get to go have a night of happiness at the ball, even making her own dress to wear instead of hoping to just buy one or thinking a fairy would help her. When that doesn't work and a fairy actually does come, she goes and makes the night awesome for herself. When the guy comes to find her, she tries as hard as she can to get to him, even after her abusive step-parent locks her away. She wins in the end, and she had a fairy and animals help, but at least she did something. At least she TRIED to make her own happily ever after by herself. Aurora just cried when she found out she couldn't be with the guy she liked. That's it. She didn't try to run away, or argue her way out of it. She just acccepted it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

.....Aurora was put under a spell. There wasn't much she COULD do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I mean BEFORE that. When the faeries first told her she couldn't marry whom she loved because she was a princess. The smart thing to do would be to say "Screw this!" and follow her heart. Go into the woods or just stay in the cottage and forget about being a prncess, Better yet she could have tried to find the guy herself. It would have been hard, but she "lovved" him right? At least enough to have an emotional breakdown whe she found out they couldn't be together. Or at least accept that she barely knew the guy and get over it. Instead she throws a little tantrum about how horrible it all is.

Oh. Idk, I haven't seen it in forever XD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know, I wish Disney would make some more Disney Princess movies about really interesting characters, not like Snow white, or the other predictable ones. Like, I don't know, a Russian princess who falls in love with a Mexican wrestler.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

a Soviet Russian spy who's undercover, but she's really a princess???

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Now THAT sounds like a kickass Disney movie! I wish they'd do stuff like that more often.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

duuude........let's make the movie! :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

sounds great :D!

yaaaay!

She actually speaks the least of any Disney heroin. But, she is what the story revolves around (without her there is no story) and she is technically a princess.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's why I said she was moe of a plot device, because she's the one the story revolves around, but she doesn't do much or have much of an effect on the plot beyond her pre-established prophecy of doom. Just because she's a princess from Disney doesn't mean people always count her as a Disney princess. Look at Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. She's Disney, she's a princess, but she's not counted as a Disney princess and she does more than Aurora does. Her movie had more problems, but as a character she was better and more useful.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

She's called Sleeping Beauty...literally all she does is sleep and look pretty while doing it so she can seduce a young man into borderline necrophilia.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What does snow white do ecept for be nice? Oh yeah be stupid and not listen to her friends that took her in.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Except*

by Anonymous 11 years ago

At least Snow White tried to do something though. She had to runaway and deal with the fact that she had no where to go, which the movie really showed, if only briefly. Aurora had to deal with the identity issue of not knowing who she was since birth and having to suddenly take on these big changes, but they didn't focus enough on the issue for it to interesting. And honestly, you can't really tell if she's upset about the idenity issue or about not being able to be with the guy she met in the woods. I'm assuming it was more of the latter, seeing as she was perfectly happy after waking p and realizing she could marry him btu still had identitiy problems. After Snow White struggles for a bit, she finds a place and finds her own happiness in a tough situation away from home. Not only is she able to find her own happiness in the middle of all this stuff that's happening to her, she brings happiness to the lives of the people who took her in, even while she's busy dealing with her own problems. That's just the kind of person she was. She wasn't the smartest, but she was kind, loving and trusting. She wasn't the best, but she was the first Disney princess and she did do something.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well she came off as a pussy and an idiot to me. But I don't like really any of the Disney princesses or their movies they suck when compared to the actual fairy tails.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Rapunzel is the best ^.^

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I just want to know what the deuce a rincess is.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

A typo. A typoI don't think you should be criticizing whe you use phrases like "What the deuce"

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Harsh. The words "typoI" and "whe" sure bury the criticism deep in my soul.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If sleeping beauty shouldn't be a princess. shouldn't snow white be excused from being a princess also?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

At least she kind of did something. She was bland, but she had tons more dialogue than Aurora and at least she had some goals. Small ones, like finding true love or being able to live happily after being chased away by her murderous step-mother, but those are mroe than Aurora had. She kind of had an "I want this guy I just met to hang out wiht me again" but she didn't really have anythign besides that. Snow White honestly was only a little better from my point of view, but she was the first ever Disney princess. You can' get rid of that, that's like keeping Donald and Goofy and getting rid of Mickey.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

that's true i didn't think of it that way.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

To be honest, it's mostly the being the first Disney princess thing. Aurora seemed to have more potential than Snow White- just a normal girl, but then her life is torn away from her when the revelation of her true identity turns her life upside down. Teh problem is, they didn't develop her enough, they didn't give her enough screen time or dialogue or anything. The only reason I think Snow White is slightly mroe developed is that the story was actually allowed to focus on her character more.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I love the movie sleeping beauty so much more than snow white though lol

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I like the movie better, I just don't think Aurora was interesting enough or developed enough within her own movie to constitute being part of one of the most iconic groups of fictionl characters in today's media.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

trueee. I like cinderella!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

She used to be my favorite when I was little. She gets criticized for being kind fo sexist, but I thought she was a good character.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

how is she sexist?!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Some people say she's too mild- like, she doesn't rebel like Jasmine, she doesn't stick up to a monster like Belle, she doesn't fight for what she wants as much and basically her main focus is to go to a party and then marry some guy she barely knew. I don't think she was bad though. First of all, the movie was made in the 40s or 50s. Come on. It's gonna be a little sexist, it's not Cinderella's fault. Second, she didn't go on adventures or fight monsters, but that doesn't mean she was weak or something. She had an incredible amount of patience to be able to deal with those years of abuse, hardworking and sympathetic towards animals (okay, basically she was a Hufflepuff). Anyway, she was abused half her life, has no one left in the world who loves her, and she just wants this one happiness for herself: To go to the ball. Yeah, it's a small thing, but she's repressed and abused and it's a normal, simple bit of freedom and fun she wants more than anything for just one night. The romance was quick and shallow, I'll admit that, but honestly she'd probably think she's in love if this is the only person who's treated her like this in years. Sorry, I tend to rant.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That was a good rant. I don't know how to reply to it.
