+347 Morality is doing what is right, no matter what you are told. Religion is doing what you are told, no matter what is right. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And what if the religion teaches morality? What is and isn't right is completely subjective to the individual judging it.

do you mind if I ask which religion you're referring to?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not referring to one in particular, but, ideally, every religion would claim to encourage morality. Which is why I mentioned it being subjective. :/ There really is no way to convince someone of what religion is right, or if religion is at all. It's really a personal decision.

That's why I'm Athiest

Sorry, but as religious as I am, God has never come out of a cloud and told me to obey him. And as much as no Christian wants to admit it, we all sin a helluva lot. But he forgives us, I guess, and I'll find out when I die. :P

Wouldn't "he" be capitalized?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oops. It's hard to remember. XD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe He didn't tell you specifically, but didn't He supposedly tell loads of other people exactly what to do, and then those people supposedly wrote it all down in what is now the Bible?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Randomer :)): Well, that's their choice. 1) The Bible stories were probably mostly exaggerated; only the basic facts are true, I think, because quite honestly, how does Matthew, Mark, Luke or John know exactly what Jonah's and God's conversation was? 2) I'd base my decision on the circumstances of when He actually summons me...?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It all depends on religion. If you truly are religious, you believe what your God, which ever one it may be, is right and he knows what is right, and that's why you obey him.

that*

I'm religous and ALL of my morals are based off of my religion. Morals and religion are very, very closey intertwined. If my church, or my pastor, or an elder, was doing something morally wrong or instructing others to do so, we would not stand for it.

Why do atheist asshats always have to prove something wrong or bad about the bible? If you don't believe in it fine, that's your choice. But I do believe. Also the only one who could not sin was Jesus. All humans slip up and sin, we can't help it. But religion is not about not sinning, its about knowing when you've done something wrong and asking God to help you onto the right path. Even Adam and Eve sinned and they were punished and then forgiven

I agree completely! Well said

by Anonymous 13 years ago

THANK you! Very well said.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

why do christian asshats think that we are always talking about the bible. There are other religions and holy books out there you know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Religion is doing what you're told, BECAUSE it is right!!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well for those who are debating the bible and if it's "right" in it's morality and what not, I have a question. I don't want to fight or argue I just want people to think. How does any one person know what is "right" or morally acceptable? If a psychopath thought that murdering was "right" because they were crazy, how do you convince them it's not "right"? If you do convince them it's wrong, it's because you TOLD them it's wrong. So this post isn't very well thought out, sorry OP. Oh, and people should stop bashing religion. If you wnat to be atheist, tha's your choice, but some constantly bash religion and it's very annoying.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wouldn't know, but what I get out of this post is not that religion is bad, but that it doesn't work for everyone, and if the non-religious are doing no harm, who are you to yell at them?

Jesus did justify slavery in the bible!
