You are only thinking about how it's an inconvenience to you. How many places do you know would teach an immigrant English free of charge? Why free? Because without learning the language it'll be pretty difficult to accumulate money or money enough to pay for rent, food, and to learn english? It's not like they come to America and decide "Hey, I wanna piss some people off by not understanding a word they say". Not only is it an inconvenience to you, it is an even greater inconvenience to them.

If they want to come here, they should prepare for America, including learning the language. It isn't the responsibility of a US citizen to ensure that an illegal immigrant knows English. A legal immigrant should learn at least some English before they get here.

America doesn't have an "official" language but it is the most commonly spoken. Why should the majority of people living in the states have to learn a language for the minority instead of the minority learning the language of the place they're in so they can communicate with the majority? Ileegal immigrants pay taxes for things like groceries, gas, etc. Not an income tax or anything that links back to a SS#.

The only foods that are taxed are the unhealthy foods, like a candy bar. Other foods, such as milk/veggies/etc. aren't taxed/are taxed veryveryvery little since they're necessary for life. You can't live off of candy.

Just because its hard for them to become legal is not an excuse. I was in a car accident with an illegal (it was in NO WAY my fault) now a year later I'm still dealing with neck,spine,hip problems (and then some) constant pain and can't live MY life. I'm 20 years old can't do what I've been in school since I was 17 to do. Can't get a job cuz of my injuries. And this guy who wasn't injured at all? Nothing. He doesn't have to pay for shit doesn't have any part of his life completly screwed like mine. Because he was illegal. So obviously that means he had no insurance. My medical alone has been close to a million dollars, no lie. Don't be ignorant. They shouldn't be here illegally. Period.

The injuries they mentioned could severely interfere with work. Sitting at a desk? Nope, could further injure their spine/neck unless you wear a highly uncomfortable brace for 8 hrs and sit straight as a pin. Anything to do with walking? A slight misstep could possibly screw up their hips. And the constant pain? You either get meds, which would be pricey if you didn't have them covered prior, or deal with the pain. Even if they WERE covered by insurance, you still have to pay. My sister's medical-examination birth control pills that were covered still cost us $15, and that is some basic medication. The post was a bit exaggerated, but the concept of the illegals is still extremely unfair,

Ugh, I hate when people say "illegals" like illegal immigrants are less than people. Believe it or not, they are people, and want the same things as you (opportunites, healthy children, political freedom, etc.). They can't help it that they weren't as fortunate as you to be born in a country that provides all of that. Obviously, it would be better if all immigration happened legally, but the current system in place makes it nearly impossible to immigrate here legally without immediate family members as citizens. But I really don't see the huge deal about illegal imigration, when there are so much bigger issues at hand.

My sister was hit by illegal immigrants a few months back. They were just going to leave the scene but luckily it happened in front of a convenience store so people stopped them. The men in that van barely spoke english, didn't have drivers liscenses, and didn't have any form of i.d. While my sister had to miss her job and deal with the trauma of being in an accident they just sat there drinking coffee, eating, and laughing. We got stuck with all of the repair bills because of this. I hope that's not too dramatic for you.

That's what I'm afraid of. Obama seems to want total control. His choice for Supreme Court, the Puerto Rican, was obviously a democrat and possibly a liberal. His choices seem to be making him more powerful, and he wants to make all illegals citizens without tests because it means he gets over 4 million more votes. 1) I usually don't make typos/mistakes. Forgive me. 2) My friend did a research paper on illegal immigrants. The majority were Mexicans. I believe it was 4.5 million, and the other groups were between 25,000-300,000 each. Some people just say Mexicans because it covers the majority. That doesn't make it right, but it makes it a bit easier. 3) I thought the solution would be apparent. Kick them out and have a stronger border. Arizona is being a little harsh, but with the federal government not even trying anything, they had to take action. It's been working, too.

Supper4dinner: I can't work because I have severe damage to my neck, spine, tail bone, ribs, hips and then some. I can't stand for longer than 5 mins. I can't sit either. I can't, say, sweep, because of the muscles and parts of your bakc you use. I physically cannot work. I have multiple doctors and therapists telling me this. I'm not exaggerating. My medical bills are close to a million dollars. That doesn't include the loss in all the money I put in for my schooling that I can no longer do. My car that was totalled. My entire life that has been turned around. The illegal ass took off at first. Came back and told the officer he was scared because he has no legal paperwork blah blah blah. They let him go. He had no medical issues. His bumper was bent under a little. Easily fixed. But since he was illegal, therefor had no insurance, I'm fucked.

Obviously! But the hospital expenses would be the bulk of the "nearly 1 million dollars." Even if the car was unfixable, the loss would only be around $40,000 at the most, depending on the type of car. The other driver's insurance would have covered the car (which I know didn't happen since he had no insurance) but not the medical bills. So it's the poster's duty to get health insurance for themselves.

Obtaining citizenship is hard. Difficult. But not impossible. In fact, I believe it was harder in the 1800s and early 1900s to become a citizen. They had to learn the language then. The government was a no-catering government. My ancestors, orphans soon after being let into the country and not even teens, spent countless hours learning the language so they could have a chance at becoming a citizen. Racial slurs, racist examiners, etc. They HAD to learn English, but with harder testing. Now, it is still hard, but they don't *have* to learn the language, or pass medical exams, or have things thrown at them. The history tests are hard, but they do receive help [as far as I've heard from legal immigrants]. They need to stop being pansies. Everyone works hard. People strive to get good grades and activities so they can MAYBE afford college, since they actually follow the laws and came here legally, rather than hopping on a boat/plane, going to a college, and instantly getting cash.

I took one of the tests because my teacher thought it would be interesting [I was in 7th grade]. Luckily, my school isn't awful [depending on the teacher], and most of the kids, if not all, passed.

If it was my fault, my insurance would have to cover it, but it was in no way at all my fault. His insurance has to cover everything. And seeing as how he has none, its coming out of my pocket. Aka, credit cards. That I can't pay. I'm not exaggerating one bit. I started beauty school august '08 when I was 18 still in high school. I would have been done august '09. Accident happened may '09. I couldn't get outta bed for over 3 months, meaning I couldn't finish high school or cosmo school. Even when I was able to get out of bed I couldn't go to school. Finally finished high school feb '10. And still have another 2 months or so of cosmo school. Even once I am done there though, I won't be able to get a job. I can't be on my feet or having my arms (shoulders) up doing hair/makeup 8 hours a day... And like someone also said a desk job is outta the question too. I've also never had a job before my accident (lucky enough to have parents that spoil me) so I can't even get disability or unem...

@utstudent: I have health insurance, its not their responsibilty to cover it because the accident WAS NOT MY FAULT. As I've already said, because it was his fault his insurance (which is non existent) has to cover EVERYTHING, not just my car. Most medical offices don't take 3rd party insurance which is what his (if he had it) insurance would be. So in my case all doctors or whoever else I may see bills my insurance first, then my insurance bill the other insurance. Seeing as how there is no other insurance involved, my insurance won't cover anything. And its not like I can just say well whatever ill just pass on the doctors then. I NEED to be seeing a physical therapist 3 times a week. Xrays to check my progress every other week. Various other doctors multiple times a month. I did everything right. License. Auto and health insurance. He didn't. So now I'm screwed. And he had a bent bumper. Totally cool though. Mhm.

He (a hard working legal citizen) was denied, but overheard a conversation where the reps told a group of illegal aliens to put a code in some area of their forms and they would automatically get the scholarships/grants. Now to me, that's not fair in one bit.

Not to mention school uniforms (which more and more schools are using) supplies; pecils, pens, binders, binder paper, highlighters, notebooks, calculators (graphing calculators can be $50-100+) etc, and that's a short list. Transportation, food, gym uniforms, various school events... Doesn't sound very free to me.

I'm gonna leave the immigration issue alone, but on education: The idea of public education is that education is a social right; that the government has a responsibility to provide it. To *everyone*. Those who earn enough to pay taxes pay into the system--considerably less, by the way, than they would pay if school weren't publicly funded--to make that possible. You don't just pay taxes so your kid can go to school, that's not how it works. You're making it possible for every child to get an education, including those who belong to families too poor to pay taxes. So, just because someone doesn't pay taxes isn't a reason to deny them an education. And if you want to say that that's borderline socialism (those who have contributing to provide for those who have not), guess what: IT IS. You also pay for everyone to have roads and bridges and a police force and any number of other public services. That's how civilized society works. Get over it.
