I can kind of understand why they'd make a phone that does this. My mom can only get text messages at work, so if I need to let her know something, I can't call her, I have to text her.

my droid does this. i don't use it commonly, but some people are just really awkward on phone conversations, and it's easier for them to fully avoid speaking over the phone, and maybe these people are bad spellers, too?

For me at least, texting is different because it's easier to multitask and do other things while texting instead of calling. I text someone, brush my teeth, and then text them again- something you can't really do with a phone call. All this really does is make texting more hands-free and convenient.

And if your sneaky enough about it it could making texting in school that much easier.

My mom had this on her old Alias. You could speak, it'd write out your text, and then you hit send. It's just convenient. I hate calling people.
