+584 Why do trials take so damn long? It shouldn't take one and a half years for the trial to start after the arrest, and it shouldn't take two more years to determine whether or not someone is guilty, amirite?

Liek srsly. Are the courts really THAT busy?

That's the reason people would rather go to McDonald's than law school. They don't wait a year and a half to give you your food. CEO of McDonalds > Supreme court justice

Another thing better about canada :) they're not allowed to wait that long or the trials dropped.

I'd rather have a rape case take a year than have it forgotten.

if its something like that it wont be forgotten. Theyll have a trial. Im talking about if its something stupid like you dont think you deserve a parking ticket.

The sixth amendment guarantees a speedy trial, so technically it could be argued that those trials are illegal.

The problem is, speedy is subjective, the sixth amendment doesnt list a time frame that prosecutors have to abide by. So basically they can take years and still argue thats its speedy to them

Where I live it's worse. As a matter of fact here you're considered guilty until proven otherwise (not the other way around); you can be arrested for years while being completely innocent. What can I say.. I live in a third world country.

The sad thing is, compared to the rest of the world, America's judicial system is fast.

(eldorito) No, they would actually be unconstitutional.

Sometimes it is good. What if someone is claimed guilty and the get executed the next day for their crime. Then later they find more evidence seeing that they were not guilty at all. They need to make sure all evidence is taken in and what the trial is doing is right
